All the years being led by my trauma kept me in people pleasing, perfectionism and avoidance mode. My authenticity had been squashed by a mound of worries and anxieties I had been ignoring. I knew I was somewhere in there and I had to find my way back to me. I started to meditate, then yoga & from there I started a relationship with my breath. What I learned is a self care journey is not about achieving a state of being or getting better, it's about being aware of my body, listening to what it needs and making decisions to compassionately care for myself.
