Aww.
You want to be an innovator.
How cute.
Most people who say that.
Just want a better version of the same old failing business model.
Innovation isn't a buzzword.
It's the art of admitting.
You have no idea what you're doing and starting from the problem itself.
John Simmond didn't innovate.
The founder of Aussie Home Loans.
Because he was.
A genius.
He did it!
Because he was broke and the banks were being absolute grubs.
He had nothing to lose.
What's your excuse?
Close your eyes.
Drop the CEO mask.
Drop the entrepreneur ego.
What's left?
Just a human trying to solve a problem.
If you're too busy trying to look successful.
You're too busy to be innovative.
Simon's partnership collapsed.
He was in the gutter.
Most people would have gone back to a nine to five and complained about the economy for the next 30 years.
Instead,
He looked at what was broken and asked,
How do I fix this for the actual human being buying the product?
He didn't build a business.
He built an answer to a problem.
Stop looking at the market.
And start looking at the person who's currently getting screwed by your industry.
In Buddhism.
They talk about.
Emptiness.
Sunnyata.
Everything in your business,
Your brand,
Your competitors.
Your industry standards.
Is just a collection of opinions and habits.
None of it is solid.
That means you can change it.
You aren't stuck.
You're just choosing to stay in the same box.
The radical shift.
Use these five steps,
But don't just do them.
Inhabit them.
One,
Empathise.
Stop talking.
Start listening to the people who hate your current industry.
To define.
Are you solving the real problem or just adding features to a sinking ship?
3,
Ideate.
If you had zero budget.
How would you solve this?
4.
Prototype.
Don't build a skyscraper.
Build a stick figure.
Test if it stands.
Five,
Test.
Let the market tell you if you're wrong.
Don't take it personally if the market says not.
You just found a way that doesn't work.
That's a win.
When you're feeling stagnant,
Ask,
Am I trying to compete with the shark?
Or am I building a blue ocean where there are no sharks?
Am I afraid of failing?
Or am I afraid of looking foolish while I learn?
Is my resilience just stubbornness?
Or is it actual progress?
I'm done.
You're not a failure just because your current idea isn't hitting.
You are a human being.
Who has the capacity to see a gap in the world and fill it.
You have everything you need.
You don't need a lucky break.
You need to stop being afraid of the mess.
Get in there.
Break the rules.
Make something that actually helps someone.
You're perfect just as you are.
Even when your business plan is currently in flames.
Now,
Get back to work.
The world isn't going to fix itself.
