One of the most beautiful places that we can find ourself in is the place of surrender.
A place where we are no longer fighting or striving,
No longer questioning or asking why,
Not ruminating with endless looping thoughts,
Where we play out a scenario over and over again in our minds,
But the place we are right now,
Where we are right here.
A place where we trust a power greater than our own to help deliver us from our sorrow and confusion,
And to take us to a place where we can totally surrender.
I invite you to find a quiet place where you are comfortable and able to focus on your breath.
I'll guide you through a series of three breathing exercises.
We're going to take a deep breath in through our noses for the count of four,
Hold the breath at the top for the count of five,
And then let it out through our mouths for a count of seven.
Let's get started.
Take a deep breath in,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And hold it,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
And breathe out,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven.
Let's repeat.
Breathe in,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Hold it,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
And let it out,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven.
One more time.
Breathe in,
Two,
Three,
Four,
And hold it,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
And let it out,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven.
Let your breathing return to its normal state.
God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
I am here in this moment and in this place.
I am at a place where I come to my higher power,
And I surrender all that I am carrying in my heart and mind.
This is too heavy for me.
I cannot control the outcome.
I want to let go of all that is weighing me down.
I want to release my confusion,
The not knowing,
The insecurity and uncertainty of all that is before me.
Help me to understand what is for me to change and what I am to release.
Give me the wisdom to know the difference between what I can and cannot change.
Help me to let go of the things that do not belong to me,
Things that I have no control over,
Things that do not involve me,
Things that no longer serve me.
Help me to accept what is.
I humbly ask you,
Higher power,
To remove from me the things that cause me to hold on,
My fears,
Resentments,
Anger,
And inward pain,
Hurts from the past,
Worries about the future,
Situations that have happened in spite of my best efforts or my intentions to control the outcome.
I release and surrender to a power greater than myself,
To a power that loves me and will guide me into a place of peace and acceptance.
Guide me into the place where I know I am loved,
A place of acceptance and peace,
A place where I can release all that troubles me into your hands,
The hands of a higher power that not only loves me but is also able to take these burdens from me and shift my focus on all of the good that surrounds me,
Even in this time.
Help me to be grateful,
To find pleasure in the countless ways that love and goodness surround me,
To find and experience joy and comfort,
Knowing that I am exactly where I'm supposed to be and that things are not happening to me,
Things are happening for me.
I breathe in all of the love and acceptance that is laid before me.
I breathe out the tension and fear as I let go and release this situation.
I surrender.
I surrender.
I surrender.
I am wrapped in the arms of the love and peace and serenity that comes as I let go.
Thank you for loving me.
Thank you for guiding me.
Thank you for taking my cares and allowing me to walk through this day with the assurance that I am not alone.
I will come back to this place as often as I need to and here I will reach for and find my peace,
For I am not alone,
I am not alone.
Let's take one more deep breath in for the count of four.
Breathe in,
Two,
Three,
Four.
Hold it at the top,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five.
And breathe out through your mouth,
Two,
Three,
Four,
Five,
Six,
Seven.
God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things that I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
