You can feel nervous and still meet this moment with steadiness.
Let yourself stop preparing for just a few minutes.
The notes can wait.
The conversation can remain ahead.
Nothing needs to begin before it begins.
Feel both feet or the weight of your body on the surface beneath you.
Let support become specific.
Pressure,
Temperature,
Contact.
Notice the room around you.
One thing near,
One thing far.
One place where light is resting.
Now notice how nerves are appearing in the body,
Perhaps movement in the stomach,
Energy in the chest,
Warmth in the face,
Restlessness in the hands.
Choose one sensation and describe it without calling it a problem.
Moving,
Tight,
Warm,
Quick.
Let the sensation have some space around it.
It can be present inside a body that is also supported.
Feel the inhale arrive,
Then allow the exhale to finish in its own time.
Do not force a slow breath,
Only notice whether the out-breath can become a little less hurried.
On the inhale,
The body gathers what it needs.
On the exhale,
It releases what is no longer required for this second.
There may be thoughts about the outcome,
How you will be seen.
Whether the words will come.
Whether you will do it well enough.
Let the outcome remain beyond the doorway.
Bring attention to purpose.
Why are you entering this moment?
To explain something clearly.
To listen.
To ask for what you need.
To offer your work.
To learn.
To take one step that matters.
Choose one purpose that does not depend on controlling another person's response.
Silently complete the sentence.
In this moment I am here to.
.
.
To let that purpose be simpler than a perfect performance.
Now imagine only the first visible action,
Opening the door,
Joining the call,
Sitting in the chair,
Looking up,
Taking your place.
Feel the body performing that one action at an ordinary human speed.
Now hear the first words,
Not the whole conversation,
Only the sentence that begins.
The first words do not need to carry the whole moment.
They only need to open it.
Imagine one small imperfection,
A pause,
A word that needs repeating,
A question you did not expect.
See yourself remaining in the room,
Breathing once,
Saying let me think for a moment,
Or beginning the sentence again.
Recovery is part of steadiness.
You do not need a flawless path to continue.
Feel the feet or the support beneath you again.
Notice the nervous energy.
Notice the purpose.
Let all three be here.
When it is time,
Carry the body into the first action.
Carry the purpose into the first words.
Let the rest become real only as you meet them.
You are not waiting to become a different person.
You are beginning as the person who is here.
