I wanted to share a little bit about my own story with energy healing.
Now I'm going to begin by saying that I never expected for a persistent cough to be something that would change the complete direction of my life.
In my early 20s,
I moved to London to build a career helping people.
Having studied art and design,
I knew that whatever path I chose needed to involve supporting people to live fuller and happier and more creatively attuned lives.
And I explored counseling whilst volunteering with organizations that provided services like support for people affected by HIV and AIDS and substance misuse and mental health challenges as well and before long I found myself working full-time in some quite demanding environments,
Carrying responsibilities that a lot of people considered unusual for someone of my age and alongside this I also experienced bereavements and I witnessed somebody die.
With cancer.
And gradually,
I developed a cough that refused to go away,
And despite different prescriptions and interventions,
The cough stayed.
I was offered inhalers,
But something inside of me was asking if there were more questions that I should be exploring before reaching for even more medication.
So the idea I had in mind was what if my body was trying to tell me something?
And looking back,
I realize that this question marked the beginning of absolutely everything that followed.
So at this time I knew less about energy awareness although I've always made the connection between our emotional,
Our mental and our physical well-being.
And I recognized for myself that I was no longer feeling the ease that I had previously felt and that I needed to understand why.
And so rather than pushing through,
I chose to listen properly to my system.
I took action.
I reduced my working hours,
I spent more time in nature,
I began swimming regularly,
And I learned a method called clinically standardized meditation as well.
And I also enrolled on a aromatherapy course and all of these things helped me to discover the kind of restorative power of just slowing down and listening.
I practiced meditation daily,
Starting out with just a few quiet moments before I gradually extended the time.
And my cats loved joining me.
I'd often find them settling beside me as if they just instinctively understood the value of this time of stillness.
And as I practiced deeper,
Something unexpected happened.
I found that simple meditation evolved into visualizations which began to arise quite naturally during the sessions and this wasn't something that I was taught,
They just appeared.
It was like my mind and my body already knew what was needed and my creative abilities provided the setting and the scenery.
So,
I followed them with curiosity,
And I used them to release tension,
To feel grounded,
And to reconnect with myself.
And then,
One day,
I realized something else too.
The cough had gone.
Now I can't say exactly when it disappeared,
Just that somewhere along the way,
And as I began listening differently and more deeply,
My body no longer needed to communicate with me in quite the same way as before.
And that experience is what changed how I see my health and well-being.
So the message is sometimes our bodies whisper before they shout and what we experience as discomfort or dis-ease as you might now hear me referring it to could just be a signal to pause,
An invitation to become curious and to listen more deeply,
More intently.
Now I'm not for a moment saying that every physical symptom has such a simple explanation but I do truly believe that there is immense power in exploring what our bodies are asking us to notice when we experience discomfort.
Over time,
These practices became a part of my everyday life.
And they helped me to hold my calm in some really powerful experiences like traveling through London during the tube bombings and things like giving birth to my children as well.
So,
In crowded places full of tension and uncertainty,
I realized that peace wasn't something I was ever going to find outside of me that somebody else could hand to me.
It was a place that I could return to when I quietly turned my attention inwards alongside connecting with the magic of nature.
As I continued working with volunteers and staff and clients,
I naturally began to share these simple visualization techniques,
And time and time again,
People told me that they experienced quite profound shifts.
Which confirmed what I had already discovered by this point anyway,
Which was that sometimes the simplest practices actually create the most powerful,
Most profound change.
And then a little later on,
It was while I was working for a breast cancer charity that I was introduced to Wakey.
And this then opened a door to a deeper exploration for me of energy and healing.
And over the years that followed,
I completed all my levels of Reiki training alongside some advanced studies in several other complementary therapies as well,
Which eventually led me full circle to reconnect with my true life's passion,
Which is color and color therapy.
Now,
When I was pregnant with my first child,
These things that I learned became invaluable for me again because they supported me through pregnancy.
They helped me to stay calm and focused during my labor.
And it was actually my ability to stay present that surprised the midwife who observed me kind of calmly and casually chatting in between what she was witnessing to be quite strong contractions.
And she said to me,
You must find a way to teach this to people because you could help so many people.
And so I promised that I would,
And I've never forgotten those words.
And so today,
After almost 20 years now of teaching and continuing to share those same methods that have transformed my own life,
I like to describe this as true and real lived experience.
So,
Whether it's through Reiki,
Through color therapy,
Through guided meditation,
One-to-one healing sessions,
Training,
Or my books or my artwork,
I have never told people what to believe.
Instead,
I strive to help you to become more aware of yourself.
And to do this through slowing down.
Through becoming curious and through looking from a new perspective and then realizing that many of the answers that you've been seeking are already there.
And I call this tuning in because to me it's like adjusting the radio frequency until you get a clear message.
These experiences that shaped me have become the inspiration in turn for my books,
Color Alchemy,
The Art of Healing,
Making Reiki Real,
And more recently,
Energy Alchemy,
Being Well and Truly You.
Now,
If my story resonates,
Just a message to remind you that I'm here to continue the journey with you together,
As I wish you to find the magic in each and every day.
With all my love.
