Lament Meditation (Vartani)

A lament from the late 5th century dedicated to the Armenian hero Vartan. The chant immortalized the moments following Vartans' death when the entire Armenian nation joined Vartan's mother in a deep sorrowful sob. This instrumental interpretation is performed on the Duduk, an Armenian woodwind instrument made from the apricot tree.
