Welcome.
Get comfortable now.
There's nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing needs your attention for a while.
Nothing needs to be solved.
Nothing needs to be washed.
Nothing needs to be checked.
Just for now,
You can simply lie here.
So the surface beneath you holds your weight.
Feel the weight of your head.
Feel the weight of your shoulders.
Away to your arms.
The weight of your legs.
You don't need to hold yourself up.
You don't even need to stay ready.
You don't need to even keep watch.
Not here and not now.
So let your eyes close if that feels comfortable.
And allow the breath to remain easy.
No large inhale and no effort.
Just let the air come in gently.
And then let it leave.
And again.
A quiet inhale.
And then an easy release.
Now one more time.
Let the air come in.
And then let it go.
You don't need to manage the breath.
Your body already knows.
So that it breathes on its own.
And allow yourself to notice something similar.
You are here.
In this room,
In this moment.
Nothing from yesterday is happening right now.
And nothing from tomorrow is happening right now.
You are here and in this moment you are safe enough to soften.
Safe enough.
That's all we need,
Not perfect safety.
And not certainty.
Not a promise that nothing in life will ever happen.
Only safe enough in this manner.
So let's hear John Wilson.
You're safe enough to let your shoulders lower.
Safe enough to let your hands rest.
Safe enough to allow the eyes to remain closed.
Safe enough to rest.
Maybe some part of you has been watching all day.
Watching faces,
Doors,
Messages,
And even moods.
Listening for changes,
Listening for tone and even footsteps.
And of course listening for what may happen next.
Maybe you become so used to staying alert that you don't always notice you're doing it.
Even when the day ends,
Some part of you may remain awake.
Ready,
Scanning,
Or even waiting.
And if it's happening tonight,
You don't need to fight it.
That part of you is not your enemy.
It may have simply learned that staying aware feels useful.
So we're not going to force it to disappear.
We're going to give it something new to notice.
So the room is quiet.
The bed is holding you and your eyes are closed.
Nothing is asking you to respond.
No one is standing over you.
No conversation is happening.
And no decision is needed.
No one is asking for an answer for now.
And for now,
There's nothing to do.
So let your forehead soften.
Allow the area around your eyes to ease.
Let the muscles there become less active.
Maybe the eyes still feel as if they want to look.
And that is alright.
That is alright,
They can rest behind the closed lids for now.
No need to check the room.
No need to see anything.
You know enough about this moment,
So let the eyes become very heavy.
And let the jaw loosen.
Notice if the teeth are touching.
There's no need to hold them together.
So let the jaw rest.
Where the tongue becomes still.
And let the mouth rest.
You don't need to speak,
And you don't need to explain.
You don't even need to call out.
You don't need to defend anything.
The mouth can rest.
The neck can soften.
And now the shoulders.
Maybe your shoulders have been doing some of the watching.
Held a little high.
Ready for moments.
So just let them lower.
Only a little.
There's no need to drop everything at once.
Just a small release is enough.
So let the shoulders lower one small amount.
And another,
And then another.
Notice how the bed receives the weight.
You don't need to hold that way.
You can let it go down.
Down into the bed.
Into the surface beneath you.
No need to carry yourself tonight.
So let your arms become heavy.
The upper arms,
The elbows,
The forearms,
The wrists,
And the hands.
And let the fingers rest.
There's nothing in your hands,
Nothing to hold or reach for or even defend.
The hands can be still,
And maybe some part of you says stay ready.
And that's alright.
You don't have to argue with the voice.
You can answer gently.
Not now.
Not now.
We are resting.
Not now.
Nothing is required.
So let those words become a quiet response.
Not now.
When the mind tries to reach ahead.
Say no now.
Whenever it checks the room.
Not now.
Whenever it wonders what might happen.
Not now.
No anger,
No force,
Only timing.
And later if something real requires you.
You can respond to that.
Well,
You don't have to respond to imagined events.
You don't have to react to things that are not happening.
So let that idea settle.
You don't have to react at what is not happening.
And right now,
Nothing is happening that needs you.
There is only a room.
A bed,
A body,
And a breath.
That's the whole world for now.
So let the world become small.
The room,
The bed,
The body,
And the breath.
No further.
You don't need to send awareness down the hallway.
You don't need to send awareness outside.
You don't even need to send awareness into tomorrow.
Keep it close,
Here,
And then feel the chest rise.
And then feel it fall.
Feel the belly move softly.
There's nothing dangerous about this breath.
There's nothing urgent about this moment.
Let the body begin to learn the difference between now and then.
Then may have been loud but now is quiet.
Then may have been uncertain.
But now it's simple.
Then may have needed alertness.
And now can hold rest.
Than his memory.
And now is here.
So let the body know where it is.
Here,
Here,
Here.
Maybe the mind still brings something back.
A memory,
A sound,
A face,
Or even a moment.
You don't need to enter it.
Just notice that was then and this is now.
And again,
That was then,
This is now.
You're not there.
You are here.
So let that become a soft anchor here,
This room,
This bed,
This breath,
And of course this moment.
So imagine now a quiet house at night.
All the doors are closed and all the windows are still.
The lights are low and nothing is moving.
You're inside one calm room.
There's no need to walk through the house.
There's no need to inspect anything.
No need to check each door.
Everything can remain as it is.
And you can stay here.
Maybe part of you wants to get up and walk.
That's okay.
You can let the urge pass.
No need to obey every signal.
The signal can rise.
And then fall.
An urge can rise and fall.
You can remain still while it passes.
So feel the bed beneath you.
The vet is real.
The urge is only a feeling.
So stay with what is real.
The bed,
The blanket,
The air,
The breath.
Real.
Now imagine there is a chair beside the door.
And the part of you that's been standing watch all day can sit down.
Not leave or not disappear.
Just sit.
Maybe it's been standing for years.
Maybe it doesn't trust the chair.
And that is alright.
Let us stand near the chair at first.
No rush.
We're not forcing trust,
We're allowing rest to become possible.
The chair is there,
The room is calm,
And nothing is moving.
And after a while,
Maybe that watchful part places one hand on the chair.
And then maybe it sits.
But only if it wants.
You can remain alert while sitting.
That is still less effort.
So let it sit,
And let it breathe.
Maybe it loops around the room one final time.
The door is closed and the room is still.
Nothing needs attention.
Now maybe I can lean back.
But only a little.
The chair holds its weight.
It doesn't need to stand.
Imagine saying to that part,
You've done enough for today.
You've watched enough,
You've listened enough.
You've stayed ready enough,
And you can rest too.
So let that freeze settle.
You can rest too.
Not because you failed,
Because there's nothing to do right now.
So you can rest too.
Maybe that bird doesn't close its eyes yet.
And that's fine.
Let it remain seated.
Rest does not need to be complete in order to begin.
A little less scanning,
Less listening,
And less preparation.
And that is enough.
So notice the muscles around your ears.
You may not think of them often,
But imagine the whole area around the ears becoming soft.
You don't need to listen for every sound.
Sounds can happen without requiring a response.
A car in the distance.
A house suddenly.
Air moving.
A distant voice or a sound outside.
You don't need to identify everything.
A sound can simply be a sound.
So let that become part of the night.
Sound of ears and then sound of haze.
No story is needed,
No meaning is needed,
No action is needed.
And if a sound doesn't need your attention,
You can know that later.
You don't need to anticipate it.
So let the ears rest.
The hearing become raw and soft.
No searching and no listening for one specific thing.
Just allowing all sound to become background.
The whole room can become background.
Can we come back around?
And you can move towards sleep.
So let the breath remain easy.
In and out.
In and out.
Nothing complicated.
Nothing to learn.
Nothing to remember.
Now you may notice Todd saying what if.
What if something happens?
What if I miss something?
What if I need to wake up?
So notice the question and answer softly.
If something real happens,
Well,
I can respond to that.
I don't need to respond now.
And again,
If something real happens,
I can respond then.
I don't need to rehearse it now.
The body can rest until there's a reason not to.
So that's thinking,
A real reason.
Not an imagined reason,
Not a memory.
Not a possibility and not a fear,
A real reason.
And right now,
There's no real reason to stay fully alert.
So the body can reduce the level of watchfulness.
Not all the way,
Just lower.
Imagine a dial.
Maybe it's been turned high.
You don't need to switch it off.
Simply turn it down one small amount.
A little lower.
The body doesn't need whole alertness in bed.
A little lower.
Still aware,
Capable,
But less ready.
And even lower.
Maybe from 10 to 9.
No rush.
Nine,
The forehead softens.
A,
The shoulder is lower.
7,
The jaw loosens.
Six,
The hands become heavy.
5,
The belly softens.
Or the legs feel still.
Three,
The eyes become heavy.
Two,
The mind is quieter.
And one.
Only enough awareness to rest.
No need for zero.
One is five.
Safe enough,
Quiet enough,
And still enough.
Resting in a so that the dial remain there.
And only sleep remains.
Imagine now that you're in a warm room while rain falls outside.
Suffering,
Evenry.
Nothing violent,
Nothing sudden.
Just a general sound.
The roof is above you.
The walls are all around you,
And you're dry,
Warm and still.
Now the rain can happen outside.
You don't need a manager.
You don't need to stop it.
You don't need to know where every drop lands.
The world is allowed to happen outside your awareness.
So let that become comforting.
The world can happen without you watching it.
Cars move,
People can sleep.
Wind can move through the trees.
Clouds can move and time can pass.
You don't need to supervise any of it.
Night can continue without your attention.
You're allowed to be absent for a while.
You're allowed to sleep.
And maybe that feels strange,
To become unavailable,
To stop watching and knowing.
Sleep is a kind of trust.
Not trust that nothing will ever happen.
Only trust that you don't need to be conscious every second.
Humans have always slept.
Even in uncertain worlds,
The body has always needed time away from awareness.
You don't need to solve that.
Just join the rhythm.
Wait,
Rest,
Wait,
Sleep.
Night comes,
The eyes close,
The body goes quiet,
And the mind drifts.
You've done this before.
You don't need to know how.
The body knows.
So that the rain in your mind becomes soft.
Further away.
And imagine another layer of comfort around you.
Maybe it's a soft blanket.
Maybe it's warm air.
Maybe nothing visual at all.
Only in the sense of being helped.
You don't need to protect every inch of yourself.
The bed holds you.
The room surrounds you.
The night contains you.
So let yourself be contained.
There's a relief in not needing to expand your awareness ever.
You can become small,
Close,
Private.
Only this body and only this breath.
No outside world for a while.
So let awareness move inward.
I'm not searching anywhere.
Just settling.
So feel the chest.
Feel the belly.
Feel the hands.
And feel the face.
All here,
Inside the boundaries of your own body.
You don't need to reach beyond them.
Maybe through the day your attention has been everywhere.
What is that person doing?
What do they mean?
What is that sound?
What comes next.
Let all the attention come back.
Back from the hallway.
Back from tomorrow.
Back from imagined situations.
And then back into the body.
Return,
Return,
Return.
Your attention can come home.
Good night and namaste.
