Imagine a rollercoaster where your emotions are tied to every rise and fall,

Every twist and turn.

For years that rollercoaster was my business and I thought I was firmly tied to it.

But I learned something invaluable about divine autonomy and that's what I'm here to share with you today.

I invite you to share your thoughts,

Feelings,

Insights and experiences in the comments so we can have a chat.

But first here's how I came to understand what negative emotional business attachment looks like and how it can be damaging to our health.

For the first three years of my solopreneur business I completely attached my emotional well-being to my business.

If my business was doing well I felt my self-worth and confidence soaring.

If my business took a dip my confidence and self-belief dipped and my anxiety increased.

This cycle of highs and lows was very damaging to my mental and physical health.

Every time the rollercoaster dipped I was literally on my knees and each time I had to pick myself up,

Dust myself off and carry on it got harder and harder to do it.

I was on a fast track to an emotional burnout and knew something really had to change.

That's when I realized that fundamentally businesses are natural rollercoasters,

Sometimes they do better than others and that's absolutely okay.

But when you attach your emotional well-being to that rollercoaster there are potentially really bad consequences.

Detaching our well-being from our spiritual business gives it the freedom to flow up and down without the burden of our emotions riding on it and it's healthier for us too.

So let's dig into what emotional attachment to business actually means,

The impact of it and the practical steps you can take to shift into divine autonomy.

So what is emotional attachment to business?

It happens when your self-worth,

Identity and your emotional state become intrinsically tied to the performance and outcomes of your business.

Successes are celebrated as personal victories while failures are seen as personal shortcomings and this happens so easily with us solopreneurs because we put our heart and soul into our businesses so this level of attachment is actually quite natural especially when we're starting out in business.

But as your business grows you'll discover the need to distinguish between your personal identity and the entity of your business.

You are the driving force behind your business,

The beating heart but the business itself is completely separate from you.

So let's just have a quick look at some of the damaging effects,

Potential damaging effects of negative emotional attachment to your business.

So the first one is what I've already mentioned it's that emotional rollercoaster.

Being so attached to the highs and lows of business results can create an emotionally dependent rollercoaster that puts your physical and mental well-being in jeopardy.

There's also an impact on your self-worth.

When business results fluctuate your sense of self-worth fluctuates with it.

This creates a constant need to pull yourself back up every time results dip.

It can be exhausting to have to deal with your own emotions and self-worth at the same time as dealing with the practicalities of your business.

So it's time for you to shift into business owner mindset.

When you first start your business it may have felt like you were a coach kind of having a go at running a business but as your business develops there's a need to really step into your business owner shoes and embody the role of a confident business owner.

This shift involves taking ownership of the business without letting its outcomes define your personal worth.

So let's have a look at five practical strategies for detachment.

The first one is to notice and I would say that this is the first step towards any deep and lasting change in your attachment and perception.

As thoughts and feelings attached to your business success or your business results come up take the time to notice them and then move forward with the following practical strategies.

The first one is reframing your perception so literally reframe your thoughts from I am my business to I steer my business from I charge my worth to I charge what my services are worth.

The second is celebrating business achievements really acknowledging and celebrating the successes of your business as a separate entity from your personal achievements from the things you're achieving in your life personally.

The next shift is to really establish some firm boundaries so setting emotional boundaries to prevent those business fluctuations from affecting your personal well-being.

The next shift is really stepping into the role so stepping into the mindset of a confident and responsible business owner.

No matter how big or small your business is think of it as a big business that you are there to run.

You have responsibility to run that business.

That business is not you.

It's your responsibility to run that business.

And finally empowerment through separation.

When you emotionally detach from the results of your business you become liberated and empowered allowing for a healthier entrepreneurial journey which means that you can take strategic decisions in your business without feeling that your well-being is at risk.

Let me just leave you with this one final thought.

The results of your business,

The results your business may or may not achieve have absolutely no impact on the value of who you are as a human being.

The true value of who you are lies within and is completely unaffected by external circumstances.

Your business could soar or fail and it has no bearing on the value of your mind body and soul.

Be really wary of attaching your well-being to circumstances beyond your control.
