Details
Journey into the living tradition of Indian Classical Music, Nāda Yoga, mantra, and Himalayan stillness in this immersive retreat held in the sacred mountain region of Dharamshala, India. Hosted by Indian classical musician and Nāda Yoga teacher Shivam Rath, this retreat takes place in the quiet days following Mahāśivarātri, one of the most powerful spiritual festivals in India offering participants a rare opportunity to integrate the energy of pilgrimage, music, meditation, and nature in the serenity of the Himalayas. Through daily practices of: Raga & Voice Activation Nāda Yoga (Yoga of Sound) Mantra & Meditation Yoga & Breathwork Sound Healing & Deep Listening Tea Ceremony & Nature Immersion Participants are invited to reconnect with their inner rhythm and explore sound as a path of healing, creativity, and spiritual alignment. No prior musical experience is required. Set amongst cedar forests, mountain rivers, and expansive Himalayan skies, this retreat offers a balance of structured practice, cultural immersion, rest, and authentic connection. An optional pre-retreat pilgrimage through Kolkata and Varanasi includes the sacred celebration of Mahāśivarātri in one of the oldest living cities on Earth. At the centre of this retreat is the practice of Raga Sadhana. Ragas are far more than scales or compositions. They are living melodic frameworks intimately connected to: time of day seasons emotion nature devotional feeling atmosphere and mood Each raga carries its own emotional and energetic essence, known as Rasa or Bhava. To practice a raga is not simply to perform music it is to enter a state of relationship with feeling, listening, breath, and awareness. The musician gradually becomes the vessel. This process naturally harmonises: intellect and intuition structure and feeling discipline and surrender mind and heart In this sense, Raga becomes meditation in motion. A Retreat of Deep Listening Throughout the retreat, participants are guided through practices that awaken sensitivity to sound, silence, rhythm, breath, and the subtle emotional landscape within. The retreat weaves together: Indian Classical Music Voice Activation Mantra Meditation Yoga & Pranayama Nature Immersion Tea Ceremony Sound Healing Sacred Rest Each day balances structured practice with spaciousness and integration. Morning sessions may begin with: sunrise meditation breathwork gentle yoga mantra chanting morning ragas aligned with the natural energy of dawn Afternoons explore: voice work rhythm listening practices Indian music theory improvisation devotional singing creative expression discussions on yoga philosophy and sound Evenings often soften into: candlelit mantra circles tea gatherings sound journeys deep rest practices silence beneath the stars No previous musical training is required. The emphasis is not on performance or perfection, but on sincerity, listening, and direct experience.
