Deep in the heart of the Great Rift Valley is an oasis, fed by crystal-clear springs running off the Loita and Ngurumann escarpment, forming an abundant, unfenced natural corridor for the passage of more wildlife species than anywhere else in East Africa. Here, you are invited to disconnect from the pressures of the everyday and immerse yourself in a vibrant ecosystem, with the UNESCO-protected healing salt-water lakes of Natron and Magadi in the distance. Then, we fly to Lamu Island, a stunning tropical paradise, with endless white sand beaches and mellow sunsets over the Indian Ocean. Feel energized with exclusive adventures and cultural encounters, feel aligned with daily yoga and meditation, and feel pampered in luxe, handpicked eco-lodges.

Location

Kirimatian, Kenya

Olkirimatian is a remote and peaceful retreat setting in the Great Rift Valley, surrounded by dramatic escarpments, open savannah, acacia woodland, and abundant wildlife. Its quiet, spacious landscape offers an opportunity to disconnect from daily life, reconnect with nature, and experience Kenya’s natural beauty in a calm and deeply grounding environment.

Fed by crystal clear springs running off the South Loita and Nguruman escarpments, Lentorre provides the perfect spot to relax and soak in the wonders of a wild and untouched Africa. Lentorre is set on a spur running off the Nguruman Escarpment beside a natural spring in the heart of the Olkiramatian Conservancy, a community initiative developed by the local Maasai community to protect their wildlife, traditional lifestyle and their heritage. Nestled in this natural amphitheatre, Lentorre provides uninhibited views of Mt Shompole, Ol Donyo Gelai and the active volcano Ol Donyo Lengai. The spring behind the lodge provides a constant source of cool fresh water and sustains a grove of venerable tamarind trees where the Olkiramatian warriors traditionally met as they came of age and elephants continue to gather to feed on ripe tamarind.

We will stay at two locations over this retreat. The first is Lentorre Lodge, Olkirimatian Conservancy, Great Rift Valley. Lentorre is a family owned and operated lodge situated in a 35,000 hectare private conservancy that overlooks the Great Rift Valley, Nguruman escarpment and the Loita hills. The lodge consists of just six large suites, two of which have double bedrooms. Each suite has its own plunge pool, private deck, lounging area, enormous open-plan bathroom and bedroom with king-sized poster beds. Each suite has a unique view towards mountains, savannahs and lakes. Lentorre is renowned for its professional photography hide and game viewing opportunities. The magic of this place is its remoteness - a totally immersive and exclusive wilderness retreat. The second location is The Majlis, Manda Island in the Lamu Archipelago Majlis is a luxury boutique hotel situated on Manda island in the Lamu archipelago with panoramic views of Lamu Island and the Ras Kitau beach. Majlis is adjacent to Shela village and yet retains a secluded, quiet and laid-back atmosphere. The architecture and interiors are gorgeous, speaking of Swahili heritage and Arabic and Indian influences. Most of the suites have private terraces with ocean views and there is a pristine white sand stretch of beach lining the front of the hotel. Majlis offers 3 small, specialist restaurants and plenty of scenic spots from which to watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean. This is paradise island living at it’s very best.

We stay at two accommodations over the retreat. Both have a dedicated Chef and kitchen staff serving meals catered to our group. Both locations use regional and seasonal produce and offer meals that are suited to international palates. At Lentorre Lodge we will have breakfast after a morning guided safari walk and meditation in the bush. Breakfast will be with fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade museli, eggs to order, sides like spinach, mushrooms or bacon, toast and preserves, coffee and tea. Lunch is usually a salad or cold soup with homemade bread and a protein of your choice. Dinner is often wild, organic meat, chicken, or a vegetarian/vegan option with healthy vegetable sides and a starch like sweet potato or rice. At Lentorre Lodge, all drinks, including alcoholic, are included. We also go for an evening game drive before dinner and stop for a sunset beverage and healthy homemade snacks. At the second location, The Majlis, we will have a morning guided yoga and meditation session on the beach, or in the beach-side pavilion. Following this, we will have a fresh and fruity breakfast, with eggs to order, coffee, tea, and freshly baked breads and pastries. Lunch will be a light salad or cold soup, and dinner is often fresh-caught fish or seafood, with vegetarian/options options, salads, vegetables, and local delicacies.

Schedule

On this retreat, we visit two different locations - one is a private nature reserve and one is on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean. The daily flow looks a little different over the two locations. Location 1 - Safari We wake a dawn with coffee/tea and then head out on a guided nature walk. The game rangers take us on a different route each day and we pause to observe animals, birds and flora. Around halfway, we stop for a guided meditation with Nina. We then walk back to lodge to freshen up and have breakfast together overlooking the Nguruman escarpment and river. We have some free time after breakfast and the opportunity to book a massage. On most days we will head out on a guided excursion, like a visit to Lake Magadi or Lake Natron, or to visit the local community and school. After or before the excursion we'll have a light lunch. Around mid-afternoon we meet for a yoga session with Nina; each day the location for our session will be different. In the later afternoon we head out on a guided safari drive and stop for sundowners and snacks. We head back to the lodge and arrive after dark. Dinner is served al fresco under the stars, with sound of the African bush around us. Location 2 - Indian Ocean We will meet for a morning yoga and meditation session led by Nina on the beach or in the pavilion, following this we will have time to freshen up or swim. Breakfast will be served buffet style, followed by down time to book a massage or read your book by the pool. On some days we have water adventures, like a guided kayak through the UNESCO-protected mangrove estuary, or a day yacht charter int he Lamu archipelago, and on these days the morning schedule will be more prompt to make time for the adventures. Lunch will be a light salad or cold soup served near the sea. During mid-day it's quite hot, so when we aren't on the water for an adventured, we'll have down-time. In the late afternoon we meet for a yin yoga session. Dinner will be served barefoot in the sand, with the sound of the sea nearby and the African stars overhead.

I’ve had the extraordinary luck to be able to join this inretreat….. twice! It’s a perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. Kenya holds such incredible beauty. I loved the excursions… paddling, snorkelling but there was plenty of time to relax. Yoga is by far the best I’ve experienced. The way Nina weaves philosophy throughout the practice… loved! Overall, this is my favourite… from start to finish. I was able to free fall into this retreat with absolutely no worries. Nina worked tirelessly behind the scenes so everything was taken care of! Highly recommend this or any InRetreat with Nina! You're definitely in great hands!

Nina's yoga retreats are nothing short of amazing. From her seasoned teaching -- embedding deep spoken wisdom alongside incredibly skilled asana instructions made each session a deeply spiritual experience. The accommodations she selected only added to the richness of the experience overall -- luxuriating in small boutique hotels that pampered to your senses with high quality bath products, spa robes, cushy towels and crisp linens. And to top it all off the off-site experiences Nina curated were simply magical!! From wildly successful game drives which revealed such a rich array of wildlife, including the elusive cheetah, countless elephants, hippos, giraffes, lions on a kill, zebras, antelope, and a seemingly endless variety of birds, to being transported by camel at sunset to a remote location in the bush to dine under a canopy of stars was nothing short of magical... And the magic continued at Watamu and the Treehouse. The building itself wound its way around the forest, accentuating nature in its purest form. Simply amazing structure. And the excursions were other worldly... From floating through a mangrove forest on the new moon -- being carried along nature's cyclical tidal currents -- to stand up paddle boarding at sunset, to snorkeling in the Indian Ocean... I will forever cherish the memories of this experience, continuing to find inspiration in what Nina so beautifully curated. If you want a yoga retreat that is holistic in nature, engaging mind, body and soul, this is the retreat for you. I can't wait to sign up for another trip with Nina.

Nina’s trip to Kenya highlighted both the safari and the beach, both hosted by the most humble and genuine human beings I have ever met! The group was so amazingly matched and just gelled! The adventures were both challenging and fun and a great time was had by all. And of course, the yoga was inspirational and enlightening as Nina has a way of making each one think she is speaking to them every time! I cannot wait until the next adventure.

In-retreat, that really does explain how you feel. I have never experienced a time when I’ve been so present. So present of my surroundings and the nature around me; of myself and my own emotions and feelings and of the beauty of the people around me. I felt truly at peace and lucky to be there, to be me. That is a feeling I will cherish forever and can’t thank Nina and the incredible strong woman who came on the trip enough. I would recommend taking the leap and going!
