Hello,
And welcome.
My name is Julie,
And I'm glad you're here for this Parent Break.
If your eyes are open,
I invite you to close them.
And let's take two breaths together as we move from the outside inward.
We'll inhale,
And release.
Inhale,
And release.
Today,
I invite you to consider that there is more than one way.
No matter what we want to do,
There is more than one way to do it.
For some things,
That might feel really obvious.
But there are some items in each of our lives that seem to have only one way of doing them.
And we can often get caught up in that one perfect way.
Consider that situation for you.
Can you find,
Even for a moment,
The willingness to let go of the idea that there is an exact way to do that thing?
If you can't,
That's okay.
If you think you might be able to,
You can put any amount of your resistance in the chair right beside you,
And for the next few minutes,
I invite you to experiment with the possibility of discovering another way.
In a moment,
We'll breathe together,
And on the exhale,
Let's release the resistance just for a short time.
Let's inhale,
And release.
And here we are.
We are in a space to create a different way.
A different way of seeing,
Of moving,
Of dancing,
Of making sound,
Of painting,
Sewing,
Bed making,
Crafting,
Swimming,
Cleaning,
Eating,
Dressing.
Whatever it is,
We are here in the space to discover a different way.
Brene Brown says that creativity is the expression of our originality.
It helps us to stay mindful that what we bring to the world is completely original,
And therefore cannot be compared.
And without comparison,
Concepts like ahead or behind,
Best or worst,
Lose their meaning.
If our creativity brings originality and there is no judgment,
No one right way of doing it,
What can you imagine?
I'll step back for this song and invite you to explore a new way to come to whatever issue has been holding you back,
Without the judgment of doing it that right way.
What will you find?
Hello again.
Whatever you discovered in that silence,
I hope it invites an opportunity to consider new ways of coming to the same problem.
And with those new approaches,
You can come to a solution.
As parents,
How can we leave room to allow children creativity as we maintain the status quo?
There's definitely something to be said for consistency and routine.
And within those guidelines,
I encourage you to find space for creativity,
Your child's and your own,
Whether that's through the arts,
Academics,
Food,
Sports,
And even parenting.
If something isn't working,
It's time to get creative.
Allowing the possibility of another way to do something may make a big difference.
Let's take one more breath together and then we'll move forward into the rest of the day.
We'll inhale.
And release.
If you're joining us live at Parent Break,
We're going to do some private,
Personal journaling for the next eight minutes.
And if you're joining us in a replay on Insight Timer,
I invite you to do the same.
Thank you for joining us for this Parent Break.
