Postpartum: The Part Nobody Prepared You For

With Rianna Hijlkema

You just had a baby. Something feels off. You thought you'd feel grateful, but instead you feel empty, lost, or overwhelmed. You don't recognize yourself. You wonder if something is wrong with you. It isn't. People often talk about the postpartum period as a beautiful time of bonding with your new baby, but there's so much more to it than that. As a postpartum doula, I've seen firsthand how overwhelming, exhausting, emotional, and unexpected those first weeks and months can be. In this 5-day course, we'll talk about the things nobody prepares you for. The pressure to feel like you should have it figured out. The identity shift. The losses. We'll explore what's actually happening beneath the surface, and you'll learn that what you're experiencing is real, valid, and something you can actually move through.

Meet your Teacher

Rianna is a postpartum doula, entrepreneur, and lifelong student of what it means to navigate life’s biggest transitions. For the past 2 decades, she has worked with people from all over the world, exploring the themes that shape how we experience ourselves and our relationships, including emotional regulation, identity, grief, and mindset. As a postpartum doula, Rianna has supported women and families through the deeply emotional and often overwhelming transition into life with a new baby. She’s seen firsthand that postpartum is about so much more than caring for a baby. It can bring unexpected grief, a profound shift in identity, changes in relationships, and the feeling of no longer recognizing yourself. Her work is grounded in creating space for the emotions that often get pushed aside, without judgment, without pressure to “bounce back,” and without pretending that everything is beautiful all the time. Through her teachings, Rianna offers honest reflections and practical guidance to help women understand what they’re experiencing, feel less alone, ask for the support they need, and begin building a new normal that makes room for both motherhood and who they are beyond it.
