Easing Overstimulation Using Music

With Silvia Dragt

Many of us have a sensitive and reactive nervous system, which means we can often become quickly overstimulated or overwhelmed. We process internal stimuli (feelings, thoughts, bodily sensations) more deeply, as well as external stimuli (people, noises, light, smells), which can quickly lead to feeling overstimulated. This state of overstimulation can then manifest itself in the form of strong feelings, physical, mental, and emotional tension, and inner restlessness. This is often followed by exhaustion and tiredness because our nervous system has been running “on overdrive". Having a sensitive nervous system is often referred to as being a “Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)”. It describes someone who is extra sensitive to stimulation of all kinds, from sights to sounds, to emotions. It’s not a choice or a disorder. And although being a higly sensitive person comes with challenges, it also brings many strengths! Music, especially calming and relaxing music, can be a very powerful tool for easing overstimulation. The better you take care of yourself, the better you manage the overstimulation, and the more of your gifts you can share with the world. Being a highly sensitive person myself, I discovered that music was very healing for me and an amazing tool to manage and ease overstimulation. During this course, you will discover how music can ease overstimulation. I will share my experiences with you, so can become aware of the positive effects of sound and frequency on our body, mind, and soul. You will discover how music can support you in your daily life when you feel overstimulated. You will experience how sound can improve all aspects of your life such as your sleeping pattern, stress level, and emotional state. My healing piano music will be used and the healing sounds of my Tibetan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, Asiatic gong, Shamanic drum, and koshi chime. Enjoy this transformative sound healing journey!
