Coire Goiriath: Tending The Cauldron Of Warming

With Katrina Sheena Smyth

Coire Goiriath - the Cauldron of Warming - is the first of the three sacred cauldrons described in the Cauldron of Poesy, an ancient Irish bardic text. It is present at birth, already lit. It holds your original warmth: your gifts, your ground, the deep-rooted capacity that was there before the world began shaping you. This practice is a return to what was always there. This course offers a guided journey into your own Coire Goiriath, supported by reflection, tending, and nurturing practices drawn from the living Irish bardic tradition, grounded in the scholarship of Liam Breatnach (Ériu 32, 1981). By the end of this course, students will have: Developed a direct working relationship with their Coire Goiriath through guided inner journey practice Recognised and named the original warmth and gifts that were present before external formation Established a sustainable tending practice to return to for continued growth and sustenance Encountered the Cauldron of Warming within its living tradition context This course is non-linear, cyclical, and designed for return, not completion. Begin with the orientation and journey tracks. Return to the reflection and tending practices for at least three days. Journey again on completion. The relationship with your Coire Goiriath deepens with each return. No prior knowledge of Irish tradition is required. The tradition is woven into the practice itself. This is the first course in the Cauldron of Poesy series through Insight Timer & Sacred Hedge Grove.

Lesson 1

What Is The Coire Goiriath?

Coire Goiriath - the Cauldron of Warming - is the first of the three sacred cauldrons described in the Cauldron of Poesy, an Old Irish text of the Irish bardic tradition. This track offers an orientation to the tradition and to your own Coire Goiriath before the journey begins. Listen before your first journey. Return to it when you want to deepen your understanding of what you are tending. The more clearly you can hold the cauldron, the more fully the practice opens.

Lesson 2

Journey Preparation To Your Coire Goiriath

This lesson prepares your body and attention for the journey to meet your Coire Goiriath. Listen to it each time you journey - it is a threshold crossing, the moment of arrival before the deeper work begins. Return to this preparation track before every visit to the cauldron. Four minutes of arrival changes what becomes possible in the journey that follows.

Lesson 3

Journey To Your Coire Goiriath

A 23-minute guided inner journey into your Coire Goiriath, the Cauldron of Warming. In the Irish bardic tradition, the cauldrons are not metaphors - they are the living interior landscape, as real as the land beneath your feet. This journey brings you into direct relationship with your own Coire Goiriath: the warmth that was already there at birth, the ground that has always held you, the gifts that were yours before you knew their name. Return to this journey at least once a week for the first month of practice. Each return deepens the relationship with what is already lit within you.

Lesson 4

Reflecting On Your Coire Goiriath

A reflection practice to work with following your journey. This lesson supports the integration of what you received, notice what has shifted, and name what is becoming clearer. The cauldron communicates slowly and obliquely - this practice creates the conditions for what arrived in the journey to surface fully. If you feel called, you can return to this reflection throughout the week between journeys.

Lesson 5

Tending Your Coire Goiriath

In the bardic tradition, this cauldron require tending - not intervention, not fixing, but sustained attentive care. This practice offers a way to tend your Coire Goiriath in the days and weeks between journeys. Listen to it daily, or as often as you can. Even a few minutes of tending, returned to consistently, changes the relationship over time. Stay with this practice for at least three days to one week before returning to the journey.

Lesson 6

Nurturing Your Coire Goiriath

A practice for the ongoing growth and sustenance of your Coire Goiriath. This lesson teaches us that the practice of tending and nurturing is a long relationship - one that continues long after the first journey, long after the first week of tending. Return to this sacred cauldron regularly. The cauldron sustains you to the degree to which you sustain it.
