A Garden In The Forbidden City
During a trip to China in 1994 after a visit to the Ming Tombs with Qi Fong, a student at the Beijing University and my translator, we encountered a caretaker and gardener who offered to show us the Secret Garden hidden deep within the Palace of the Forbidden City. Having passed through the main halls of the palace and through a series of winding corridors, we were led into an exquisitely lush sanctuary of murmuring fountains and hushed corner pavilions filled with every sort of tropical plant.
