Welcome.
However you arrived here today,
Hopeful,
Distracted,
Unsure,
That is the right way to arrive.
There is nothing to fix before we begin.
Let yourself settle into whatever position you're in,
Lying down,
Sitting.
Wherever you are right now.
You don't need to change anything about your posture to do this correctly.
Because there is not a correct posture.
If it feels right,
Let your eyes close.
If not,
Let your gaze soften and rest somewhere low and unfocused.
For the next few minutes,
There's nowhere else you need to be and nothing you need to make happen.
Not even here.
Begin by just noticing.
Not adjusting.
Noticing.
Where is your body making contact with whatever's underneath you?
The chair,
The bed,
The floor.
And without trying to change it,
Notice if there's any place in your body that feels drawn in,
Closed,
Held.
Maybe your jaw.
Maybe your hands.
Maybe somewhere in your belly or your chest.
This is not a problem to solve.
We're simply noticing what's here.
There is nothing wrong with you for feeling closed in some places.
We're not going to force anything to open.
We're just going to see what it's like to bring a little warmth to those places.
The way you would rest a hand on a shoulder.
Not to fix it.
Just to say,
I'm here.
If it feels available to you,
Let your jaw soften.
Just slightly.
Not because it's wrong to hold tension there.
Just to see what a small release feels like.
Let your hands soften too.
If they're holding anything.
Fingers heavy.
Uncurled.
Now bring your attention to your breath.
Not changing it.
Just noticing it.
The way you would notice a tide moving in and out.
Notice that every breath in makes just a little more room in your body than was there a moment ago.
And every breath out releases that room without losing it completely.
Your body already knows this movement.
It has been expanding and settling with every breath.
All day long.
Without you having to make it happen.
Just for these next few breaths,
Follow that small,
Quiet opening.
In a little more room.
Out is settling.
Not a collapse.
I want to say something clearly here.
There is nothing you need to open right now.
Nothing you need to release.
Nothing you need to make happen.
Not in your body.
And not in this meditation.
This is not a task you can do well or do poorly.
If your body stays exactly as closed and as guarded as it was when you pressed play,
That is allowed.
You have not failed at anything.
We are not opening in order to earn something.
We're just exploring what opening feels like.
Or its own sake.
For a few minutes with nothing riding on it.
Here's what I would like to invite you into.
If you're willing.
You don't have to believe that everything will work out.
You don't have to know what's going to happen or convince yourself of anything.
That's not what this is.
For these few minutes,
We're simply exploring something smaller and gentler than the leaf.
We're exploring what it feels like to leave a little room.
Not room for a specific outcome,
Not a visualization of anything in particular,
Just room.
Space where something might be possible,
Without you having to name what,
Or promise it,
Or chase it.
Ask yourself.
Quietly.
Without needing an answer.
What would it feel like to make just a little room for something I cannot yet see?
You don't have to answer that.
You don't have to know.
Just notice what happens in your body when you ask it.
Maybe nothing shifts.
Maybe something does.
A loosening somewhere.
A breath that goes a little deeper.
A small and unfamiliar feeling that might be relief.
Or it might be something else entirely.
Whatever it is.
It is allowed to be small.
It is allowed to be uncertain.
It does not need to be dramatic to be real.
Let that sense of room extend,
If it wants to,
Beyond your body.
Into the space around you.
Into your life.
You don't need to know what belongs in that space.
You're not being asked to be optimistic.
You're not being asked to override whatever you've been carrying.
You're only being asked to notice.
Is their room.
Even a little.
For something you can't yet see.
The desire you carry for this,
For a child,
For this next chapter,
That desire is allowed to stay exactly as strong as it is.
Opening a little room does not mean wanting it less or wanting it differently.
Your desire can be here.
And possibility can be here too.
Notice how your body feels right now.
Compared to when you started.
Not better or worse.
Just different.
Or maybe the same.
Either one is fine.
You don't have to hold onto this feeling once the meditation ends.
You don't have to protect it or keep it going.
It did what it needed to do just by happening.
If it's useful,
You can come back to this,
The small question.
What would it feel like to make a little room?
Anytime today.
For just a breath or two.
No ceremony required.
Whenever you're ready.
Gently deepen your breath.
And let your eyes open.
Thank you for spending this time with your body.
And with yourself today.
