Take some time to slow down and listen to your knee pain. Learn about the spiritual meanings and functions of the knee so we can come to understand a bit better what it might be trying to teach us. Please use this wisdom alongside advice from your doctor or health practitioner, and think of this as a complementary mode of healing that is more holistic in its intention.

Transcript

Welcome to this guided meditation to look into the deeper meanings of the symptoms your body is expressing.

It's always a good idea to talk to your doctor or your health practitioner to see if you need medication or other external interventions.

But in addition to caring for ourselves on the material realm,

We can also get curious about what these symptoms might be trying to tell us spiritually,

Energetically,

Or emotionally.

What's the spiritual meaning of knee pain?

Take a moment to get settled for this meditation.

Take any shape that works for you,

Especially if sitting is causing discomfort.

Take a moment to honour and acknowledge the land that you are on,

Wherever you are in the world.

Now begin to attend to the pain in your knee.

Take a breath and get curious about the sensation there.

What exactly does the sensation feel like?

Is it big,

Small,

Tight,

Vibrating,

Pulsing?

Does it have a colour or a shape?

I'm going to ask some deeper questions here.

I invite you to simply get curious about what happens as you hear these questions.

You may or may not get an answer,

And that's fine.

We're just exploring and encouraging the body to communicate with us on its own terms.

So if a sensation in your knee could speak,

What would it say?

What does the sensation want?

What does this energy in your knee fear would happen if it were to stop causing you pain?

So the knee is sometimes understood as a highway joint.

It sits between the hip and the foot,

And sometimes an issue there is referred to the knee,

Which is caught in the middle.

Are you caught in the middle of something right now?

Is there some pain that's referring from elsewhere?

Is there a part of you that wants to stop causing pain?

Is there a part of you that wants to go while another part wants to stay?

Do you feel confused or conflicted about your life path right now,

Where you're going,

What you're doing?

The knees are also located in the region of muladhara chakra,

The first chakra.

This is the energy centre that is located at the base of the spine,

Orienting around the bottom of the pelvis and down the legs into the feet.

This is the energy centre that connects us to the earth,

To the land,

To our material reality.

When we feel unsafe,

Insecure,

Or disconnected from our grounding,

We can sometimes get issues in this region.

Do you feel safe in your life right now?

Is your home environment secure and comfortable?

Are you moving too fast?

Do you need to slow down,

Get more rest?

Is it difficult for you to rest right now?

The knees are also load-bearing joints.

They carry most of the weight of our bodies,

And they are both very delicate but also very strong.

Are you carrying a lot of weight right now in your life?

A lot of responsibility or worry?

Do you tend to play the role of caretaker in your family or relationships,

Holding other people's issues for them?

Do you feel supported and well-resourced with whatever it is you're doing?

Are there others in your life that help you carry whatever burdens that you have?

Knee pain can show up in one or both knees at any given time.

If the pain is just in one knee,

There is likely an imbalance somewhere,

Especially with how you are carrying the weight around your body.

Especially with how you are carrying the weight of responsibility.

There may also be that quality of struggling with whether you want to stay or go,

To go in one direction or the other.

Both knees hurting may relate more to the first chakra issues of safety,

Security,

And the need for good rest.

So the right side of your body is your doing side,

The yang side.

This is the side where you make decisions,

Take actions,

Stand up for yourself,

And so on.

The left side is the more intuitive feeling side.

Pain on the right side points more to issues of choice,

Action,

And movement,

Decisions that will have impacts on the real world.

Left side knee pain may indicate hidden desires and feelings,

Unacknowledged parts of you that need attention.

This may be about inner needs and feelings,

Less than external changes.

Take a moment to attend to those ideas,

Whatever is resonating for you,

Whether your knee pain is on the right,

The left,

Or both knees.

Take a few more moments to simply listen to your knees and to your body.

Is there anything else that it's trying to tell you right now?

When this practice feels complete for you,

Place your hands together and gently bow to your body.

Thanking it for talking to you.

Thank the land and all of the wisdom from many lands that come together to help us to understand our bodies better.

Thank yourself for listening.

I wish you all the best in your healing.

Some great questions to ponder answers to. For me it’s right hip/knee/ankle pain. Slowing down. Off loading other people’s pain and responsibilities. Making a choice to begin taking action towards getting my home environment transformed into the sanctuary I need so I have recovery space that nurtures and soothes and recharges me. There’s also worry about my future financial wellbeing and ability to generate income that’s enough for the simple lifestyle I desire. My humble gratitude for your loving guidance. 💛💐
