Stoic Affirmations: Reminders, Not Wishes

With Jon Brooks

Most affirmation courses ask you to declare a future you wish for. This one does the opposite. The Stoics used affirmations too. But not to manifest anything. They used short, true sentences to remind themselves of what they already knew and kept forgetting. That most things aren't up to us. That the verdict on an event is separate from the event. That the day is borrowed. Over seven sessions, you'll build a small personal collection of these lines, drawn from Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus and Seneca. Each day takes one area of life and gives you three lines for it: what you can control, the judgements you add to events, adversity, difficult people, worry about the future, your own mortality, and finally the daily practice that holds it all together. Twenty-one lines across the week. You won't keep them all. You'll keep the handful that are actually yours, and you'll know how to use them in the moment you need them. Each session is around ten minutes: a short teaching, then a guided affirmation practice with real silence between the lines. No manifestation, no abundance, no raising your vibration. Take one session a day for seven days. Then return to Day 7 each morning for 30 days. Repetition is the practice.

Build a small set of true Stoic lines you can carry into hard moments, one area of life per day for seven days.
