There wasn't any beauty or majesty in him.
He didn't look attractive and nothing in his appearance made him stand out.
So he didn't notice his presence.
However,
It was our weaknesses that he carried and our pains which overwhelmed him.
The Book of Isaiah chapter 53.
We sometimes expect him to be different.
And then we don't even perceive him,
Even if he is walking by our side.
Let us pray.
Our Lord,
I hoped you were the possessor of all certainties.
However,
You shine amongst the uncertain.
I was told you were abundance.
However,
I find you in the depths of the restlessness.
I was hoping you were perfection.
However,
I find you in the midst of the hopelessness.
I was told you were immense.
However,
I find you in the tiniest things.
I was hoping you were the perfect company.
However,
I find you in complete solitude.
I was told you were the truth.
However,
You reign amongst my doubts.
I was told and I waited.
But now when the words and the beliefs start to vanish and everything is covered with silence,
Then you blow between the pain and the doubts.
And I find you.
I find you where you were not supposed to be.
You live between my strength and my weakness.
Humble and silent.
Waiting forever to be discovered.
And then you reveal yourself.
And I find you.
I find you partner in the uncertainty this journey to the future gives me.
I find you sympathetic with my fear of losing my beloved affections.
I find you so close to me in the overwhelming fragility that accompanies me every day.
And I feel you.
I feel you in my deepest being.
I feel you in words.
Words that become prayers.
Prayers that make their way amid the haze of my thoughts.
And as fragile whispers that pierce the soul tells me.
My child.
When darkness hangs over you and you feel that hope and faith are merely far memories.
When you perceive that the inevitable takes ownership of your present and think there is nothing else to look forward to.
Then trust.
As I will hold your emptiness between my hands.
Your anguish will nest in my chest.
I will anchor your name to mine.
And you will be eternity.
Amen.
