And welcome,
Fellow follower of the way,
This is an ancient protection prayer from the orthodox christian faith,
Designed to safeguard you,
To preserve you,
To shelter you from the darkness of the demons,
And to usher you in to the light of christ.
This prayer will be sent to the angels,
As a petition for intercession,
Done in the same spirit as when we ask a friend or a family member to pray for us,
Recited with the understanding that we are talking to one of God's earliest creations,
The beings that were there with him,
During the very creation of the world.
And so,
With that in mind,
Please repeat after me,
O angels of God,
My holy guardians,
Given to me from heaven,
Enlighten me this day,
And save me from all evil.
Instruct me in doing good deeds,
And set me on the path of salvation,
Protect and guide me on my path.
O angels of Christ,
Holy guardian and protector of my soul and body,
Forgive me of everything I have done to offend you this day,
And protect me from all influence and temptation from the evil one.
May I never offend God by my sin.
Pray for me to the Lord,
O angels of God.
That he may make me worthy of the grace of the all-holy trinity,
And of the most blessed Theotokos,
And of all the saints.
Protect and guide me on my path.
Amen.
And now let's be silent for a moment,
Connecting with the angels through thought alone.
And now,
Let's continue with another prayer.
With our hands clasped,
Our head bowed,
In true solemnity,
Repeat once more after me,
O Lord,
Our God,
Pre-existing before all ages and remaining forever,
Who are as great in compassion as you are in uncontainable power,
Who,
Because of your ineffable mercy,
Parted the heavens,
Came down to earth and became man for the salvation of sinners,
Who put on and immortalized our nature and ascended with it.
To the place from which you descended,
Hear me now from heaven and become merciful.
To all those who cry out to you with a broken heart,
You,
O Master of all,
Lend your ear and hear us.
We know your undefeatable love for your creation and your inexhaustible goodness,
Hence,
We pray for you.
Hence,
We throw ourselves into the ocean of your compassions and entreat you to turn not your face from us,
Nor cast us away from your countenance,
Neither hand us over to those who are so furiously attacking us.
Look upon us with your compassionate eye.
Show us how to rise above both the visible and invisible enemies,
Placing us a power from on high.
Encompass us with your almighty right hand,
Keep us under the protection of your wings,
Fortify us with love for one another and grant us unshakable peace.
But before all and above all,
Instill in us your fear and your love that your holiness is the only truth.
That your name may be glorified in us.
Upon you alone we look,
You alone we have placed our hopes,
And to you we send up the glory.
Together with your Father who is without beginning and the life-creating Spirit now and forever and unto the ages of ages.
And now,
Let's have another moment of silence,
Opening up our heart space to the Lord,
Ensuring that these are not merely words spoken from our mouths,
But a feeling generated from within.
Prayer shouldn't just be lip service,
It should be a cry,
It should be a call,
It should be a message of our affection.
And so,
Let him read our hearts,
Truly.
