Calm For When You Can't Switch Off

With Clare Downham

If your mind will not stop even when your body is finally still, you are not broken, and you are not alone. So many driven people carry the belief that thinking harder means caring more, staying safe, staying responsible. It is an exhausting belief, and it is simply not true. This course gently questions that belief and offers a way back to the calm, clarity and ease that have been here all along, quietly waiting beneath the noise. Rooted in a Three Principles understanding, this course does not offer more tools or techniques to manage an already busy mind. Instead, it explores where overthinking really comes from, and how awareness itself, not more thinking, is the doorway back to calm. Real stories, honest moments and gentle reflective questions invite a different way of relating to an overactive mind, one rooted in noticing rather than fixing, and trusting rather than forcing. This is especially supportive for driven, caring professionals and business owners who feel stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or close to burnout, who sense that more effort is not the answer, and who are ready to explore something quieter and more sustainable instead. It may be less suited to anyone looking for quick tips or a rigid technique to apply under pressure. Drawing on real experience of moving through burnout and years of an intensely busy mind, this course speaks honestly about what that journey actually looked like, including the parts that felt uncomfortable, uncertain or hard won. As this understanding settles, many people notice their recovery time after a stressful moment beginning to shorten, decisions feeling simpler, and a felt sense that calm was never something to search for, only something to remember. This is not a fast fix, and it does not ask for willpower or discipline. It asks only for a little curiosity and an openness to look at overthinking a little differently. If this feels like the right moment to explore a calmer, clearer way of relating to your own mind, this course offers a gentle place to begin.

Meet your Teacher

Clare helps capable, driven professionals and business owners whose minds rarely stop, move from overthinking and overwhelm to calm, clarity and ease. Her journey began with an epic burnout in 2015, after years of holding everything together and believing she had to keep going. A headteacher, mother and busy human, Clare had become remarkably good at overriding her body and thinking herself into exhaustion. After years of trying to fix herself with tools and techniques, discovering the Three Principles changed the direction of her life and work. She saw that calm was not another thing to achieve. It was already within her, temporarily covered by the noise of thought. Her coaching is grounded in this inside-out understanding and our innate wellbeing and wisdom. Deep listening sits at the heart of Clare’s work. She provides a spacious environment where people feel heard, hear beyond the noise of their thinking and reconnect with what they already know. There is nothing to perform, prove or get right. Through Insight Timer and her group and one-to-one coaching, Clare supports people who feel overwhelmed, behind, exhausted or stuck. As the noise settles, the inner critic loses authority, decisions become simpler and the body’s wisdom becomes easier to hear. Her work is not about managing every thought or adding more to do. It is an invitation to rediscover the calm, clarity and wisdom that have been there all along, so life and business can feel lighter and easier.

Lesson 3

Your Body Is Always Talking To You

Your body has been trying to tell you something for years. This lesson explores feelings as messages rather than problems, including a personal story of a stress related skin condition that vanished overnight once its message was finally heard, and what that reveals about your own body.

Lesson 4

Losing Yourself In Other People's Noise

So many voices telling you what to do can drown out the one that matters most, your own. This lesson looks at what happens when we borrow other people's certainty instead of trusting our own clarity, and how to find your way back to a mind and a life that actually feels like yours.

Lesson 5

Protecting Your Peace

Not every spiral needs to be finished. This lesson shares a personal turning point when a quiet voice interrupted the need to keep thinking, and shows what becomes possible when you choose to protect your peace instead of chasing an answer that was never there to find.

Lesson 6

The Answer Was Never In Your Head

What if every answer you have ever searched for while overthinking was never actually there? This lesson explores why the busy mind has a near perfect failure rate at solving anything, and where real answers tend to show up instead, often when you have stopped looking for them at all.

Lesson 7

Putting Down The Hammer

A hammer is a wonderful tool, until you try to paint a wall with it. This closing lesson brings the whole journey together, showing what becomes possible when overthinking is finally put down as the wrong tool for the job, and how recovery, not perfection, becomes the new measure of progress.
