Every school has a lost and found,
Either a little closet or a big room.
If you lost your little glove in elementary school or a sweater in high school,
You'd go to the lost and found and there was a very good chance you'd find it there.
Even stores,
Restaurants,
And theaters have a lost and found.
Keys left in the bathroom,
Wallets on a counter,
Glasses on a table.
You're often lucky enough to find them in the lost and found department.
What happens when you've lost yourself?
When you wake up morning after morning and you can't find you.
You look in the mirror and yes,
It's your face,
It's your body,
But where are you?
When you feel lost,
Where's the lost and found department for lost life and lost meaning?
Two big questions.
Where did you lose yourself?
How did that happen?
You had hopes and dreams,
Plans and goals.
You knew what you wanted to be when you grew up,
Even if it changed 72 times.
Suddenly you woke up,
Grown up,
And the you in the mirror isn't the you you thought you'd see or planned to be.
What happened?
Where did you get lost?
It wasn't a one-time event.
You lost pieces of yourself as you lived your life.
You lived it for others.
You gave little pieces of yourself away.
Check the lost and found of places you've been.
There you'll find evidence of the pieces you gave away.
You did everything you knew to do to be a good son,
A good daughter,
A good father,
A good mother,
Good friend,
Neighbor.
You jumped the hurdles to meet the standards others set for you.
You didn't speak up for yourself when you should have,
When you wanted to.
You put everybody first,
Even the dog,
The cat,
And the goldfish.
You gave your time away to the point of exhaustion,
And there was no time left for you.
You kept putting that call to yourself on hold until you just forgot your own call.
Now you feel empty and lost.
Where's the lost and found,
People department?
The place where you go to find the lost pieces of your life.
Unlike gloves,
A sweater,
Keys,
Wallet,
Glasses,
You can't even remember the last time you saw yourself.
So how do you even know where to look?
Good news,
There is a lost and found for people pieces,
And it's open 24-7.
No matter what age you are,
The parts of you that you lost are there to be found.
The universe is your lost and found.
Some call it a secret closet.
It's the place inside and the time you intentionally seek the silence.
Set aside to quiet your mind.
Psalm chapter 4 verse 4 says,
Commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still.
Spirit says in Psalm chapter 46 verse 10,
Be still and know that I am God.
Life may certainly have clouded your hopes and dreams,
But Spirit remembers and knows every part of you.
Nothing has been lost.
You're still there,
Inside,
Waiting for you to allow you to come forth.
But you must allow it.
Sounds simple,
Like all you need to do is meditate?
Not so much.
The release and the emerging of your dormant self is simple.
Believing and trusting God,
Believing the possibilities and getting out of your own way,
That's the hard part.
Here's the challenge.
Go to the lost and found within.
A couple of times this week.
Be still and quiet.
Trust God.
Things will begin to happen to let you know you're still very much here.
You were never lost.
