Bion

Kandō Bion Boncutiu (緩道 美音) is a fully ordained monk and teacher in the Soto Zen tradition, in the lineage of Niwa Zenji, Gudō Wafu Nishijima, and Jundo Cohen. He also serves as a senior teacher in the Treeleaf Zendo lineage, an international, online-based Soto Zen community. Bion began his Zen practice in the mid-2010s, committing himself to a path of deep training and community service. Even before his ordination with Jundo Cohen Roshi, Bion served as a pillar of the Treeleaf community, supporting the practice of the sangha. In May 2026, Bion received Dharma Transmission (Shiho) from Jundo Cohen Roshi. Through this traditional ceremony, he was recognized as a fully autonomous Buddhist teacher in the Soto Zen lineage tracing back through Gudō Wafu Nishijima and Eihei Dōgen Zenji. His teaching is rooted in the Dharma of early Buddhist texts and the practice of shikantaza ("just sitting"), as taught by Eihei Dōgen Zenji, emphasizing a gentle, compassionate approach that meets practitioners exactly as they are. Based in Spain, Bion balances his international role at Treeleaf with local community building and digital outreach. He is actively involved in cultivating a vibrant community of Buddhist practitioners in the heart of Madrid. A multilingual teacher, he speaks English, Spanish, and Romanian. Bion's focus is on the practical application of the Buddha Dharma for everyday life.
