The Story of Mankind was written and illustrated by Dutch-American journalist, professor, and author Hendrik Willem van Loon and published in 1921. In 1922, it was the first book to be awarded the Newbery Medal for its outstanding contribution to children's literature.

Thank you SO wonderful

The wait for this final chapter was worth it as it sheds perfect light on our current political catastrophes. Same as it ever was. We had those leaders of vision and courage post World War II but they were cut down and we are again hoping for persons of integrity to arise and take the helm. The last piece about irony and pity is profound. I will listen again, copy it down and share with others. Thank you so much for bringing this wise and insightful work to our attention.
