Hello,
I'm Radiance,
And today we are doing alternate nostril breathing.
Your left nostril connects to the right hemisphere of your brain and your right nostril connects to the left hemisphere of your brain.
This breath balances both sides in under five minutes.
It is called Nadi Sharana.
Alternate nostril breathing.
Nadi means channel and Shodhana means purification.
So you are literally clearing the energetic pathways of your body when you do this breath.
Here's how the technique works.
You start with your right hand.
Take your peace fingers and drop those into your palms.
You're gonna flip your hand and take your right thumb and cover your right nostril.
Close that right nostril.
Breathe in through the left.
Nice and slow,
And then you hold at the top while you close.
And then you open.
The right nostril.
And release the breath.
Exhaling through the right side.
You can ignore the pinky finger,
It's gonna hang out there.
Technically it's your thumb.
Right nostril and your ring finger and your pinkies just there.
Okay,
So we've exhaled through the right nostril.
Now we inhale through the right nostril.
Closed bow.
Hold.
Release the left side and exhale through the left.
So that's one round.
So we're going one round is up,
Hold down.
Up,
Hold,
Down.
This balances both hemispheres of the brain,
Lowers your cortisol,
And balances your parasympathetic nervous system.
Research also suggests that it can lower blood pressure within minutes.
So let's do a few rounds silently at your own pace.
You can watch me for reference,
Or just remember,
Inhale,
Hold,
Exhale,
Inhale through that same open channel,
Exhale,
Okay?
Here we go.
Starting,
We always start covering the right nostril.
Great work.
You don't have to hold for a really long time.
You don't have to make a lot of noise while you do it.
Just go at your own pace,
Let it be calm and comforting and come back to this anytime that you feel scattered or overwhelmed or you just need a little bit of balance and calm.
Take care.
