True spirituality is a process of deduction,
Which in other words means stepping backwards.
Let me run you through an activity.
Look around you.
Look around you wherever you are and just notice that firstly you're here.
Now don't overlook that.
This is the most fundamental spiritual truth.
You may have heard the expression,
I am.
I am.
I am is the most fundamental truth.
In existence.
Now let me explain it for anyone who's kind of new to spirituality or a little bit.
On the fence.
I am is from the verb to be.
To be.
For those of you who speak Spanish,
Ser,
To be.
I'm sure there's a similar word in Italian and French,
To be.
Right now,
You have a self-concept.
We all have a self-concept,
A mental image.
So if I ask you,
What's your name?
What's your story?
What's your history?
What have you done that's great?
Who is your family?
You'll feel this kind of weight.
There's this kind of like rough idea of who we think we are.
But it's not actually the full extent of us.
It's actually a false self.
Why is it false?
Why is your mental self-concept,
In other words the ego,
Why is the ego and the mind not really you?
Deduction.
Stepping back.
If you're able to step back from something and observe it,
Which you can do with your mind,
You can step back from your mind and observe it.
You can step back from your egoic self-concept.
If you can step back and observe something,
Then you have proven to yourself that you're not it.
Let me take this ring off.
This is a ring.
And through deduction.
.
.
I'm the Lord of the Ring.
Through deduction,
I know that this is not me.
This is not the truth of who I am.
My ego,
However,
Could say,
Well,
This is my ring.
This is a ring that my wife gave to me.
This is a ring that I've had for 10 years,
Like a story,
A narrative.
But the reality of it is that it's an object put it back on.
And the truth of me,
The fundamental truth,
Is that I'm the observer of the ring,
No matter how much narrative and story that is put onto this ring.
And the same thing goes for you.
The person and all of your history.
All of your weight.
It's not the truth of you.
You are not just a person.
You're simply not just a person.
A person is part of you,
Like being a person is part of your experience,
Right?
We're not denying that you have a name and you have a body,
That exists,
But it's not the fundamental truth of who you are.
What we're talking about here guys is.
.
.
You,
Not the person,
But the awareness at the absolute baseline of your being.
