Welcome to the Mindful Minute with Douglas Cardwell, professional musician and sound immersion guide. Here we get to meet Douglas as he relates simple daily tools he uses to minimize unnecessary distraction and stress throughout the day. Most of us can relate, and these simple strategies and short reminders are intended to help us be more present and find more joy in every moment. This first track, Slow Down! Literally, Douglas (who likes to drive fast) reminds us that when we speed to our destination, usually because we are running late, the consequences and risks FAR exceed any small benefit! Regardless of your mode of transportation, put it in 'R' - Rational Mind. Slow down, enjoy the drive, enjoy the privilege, and drive safely for yourself and others. Namaste. Welcome to the Mindful Minute with Lotus Soundbath.

Simple tools to use throughout your day,

Every day,

A practice in mindfulness and coming to presence.

Driving across town in a hurry,

We're late,

We've all done it.

Physically,

If we do the numbers,

It's not worth it.

If I can drive 10 miles per hour faster for an hour,

No stop signs,

No stoplights on the freeway,

I make up 10 minutes per hour.

Driving across town,

Let's say it's 30 minutes or even less.

Now I'm down to five minutes just driving across town that I'm saving when I'm rushing and feeling out of sorts and possibly endangering yourself and others.

If we had stoplights,

Stop signs,

That five minutes shrinks to three,

Two,

Maybe even one minute.

Going faster across town,

You don't feel good.

Other people don't feel good as we zig and we zag.

So taking a deep breath and knowing the facts of the numbers.

Yes,

You can multiply that and say 20 miles per hour,

That's even maybe saving three to four minutes across town.

So when you're in that mode,

Even if you slow down,

You're going to get there three minutes later.

So remember that the next time when you're in that mode,

It just changes your demeanor for when you arrive to the location you're going.

Make it a game,

Remembering,

Coming back to presence.
