This meditation is inspired by The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron and is offered as a companion practice to support the 12-week journey of creative recovery and discovery.
All core ideas and spiritual principles referenced here belong to Julia Cameron.
This track is simply an invitation to gently embody those ideas through stillness,
Listening and presence.
In The Artist's Way you'll see the word God used a lot.
For some this word feels familiar or comforting.
For others it may feel loaded or difficult or simply not relevant.
Here you're invited to understand God in whatever way feels safe and supportive for you.
It may mean good orderly direction,
A higher power,
The universe,
Nature,
Creative intelligence or the quiet wisdom within you.
You don't need to believe anything,
You don't need to agree with every word.
Let the language wash through you,
Keeping what resonates and gently setting aside anything that doesn't.
This is your creative journey and you are welcome to meet it in your own way.
Now allow yourself to arrive.
Let your body find a position that feels supported,
Upright or resting,
Comfortable enough that you don't need to move,
Gently closing your eyes or softening your gaze.
Bring your attention to your breath,
No need to change it,
Just noticing the inhale arriving and the exhale releasing.
If it feels supportive,
Place one hand on your chest and one hand on your belly.
Feel the rhythm of life moving through you.
Each breath a small act of creativity,
Inhaling,
Exhaling,
Receiving,
Exhaling and offering back.
Creativity is the natural order of life.
Life itself is creative energy.
Imagine this energy as a gentle current.
Flowing through everything,
Through trees,
Through oceans and through you.
There is an underlying creative force infusing all of life,
Including your own body,
Your thoughts,
Your longings.
You don't have to earn this connection,
You were born inside it.
As you breathe,
Imagine this creative energy softly expanding your chest.
When you open yourself to creativity,
You open yourself to the creator's creativity.
Within you,
You are not separate from this force.
You are creation and you are meant to continue creation by being creative yourself.
Creativity doesn't have to be loud,
Or productive,
Or perfect.
It can be as simple as attention,
As curiosity,
As presence.
Let your breath be a reminder,
I am already participating.
Creativity is a gift and using it is a gift returned.
Notice if there is any tightness in your body,
Perhaps in the shoulders,
The jaw,
The hands.
If so,
Imagine the exhale softening that grip.
The refusal to be creative often comes from fear,
From self-will trying to stay safe.
You don't need to push yourself today.
Simply opening even a little is enough.
When we explore our creativity,
We open ourselves to good orderly direction.
To guidance that doesn't shout,
But gently names.
As your breath continues,
Sense the space around your body.
You are held.
As creative channels open,
Gentle but powerful changes may arise.
Not all at once,
Not forcefully.
It is safe to open yourself to greater creativity.
You can go slowly.
You can pause when needed.
You set the pace.
Bring to mind lightly a creative dream.
Or a yearning or quiet curiosity.
No need to define it,
No need.
Just noticing it exists.
From life itself moving through you.
As you move towards what calls you,
Even in small ways,
You move towards your own wholeness.
Now,
When you are ready,
Begin to notice the room around you.
The weight of your body.
The steadiness beneath you.
Take one final nourishing breath in.
And a long breath out.
And when you are ready,
Gently open your eyes.
Carry this openness with you.
Into your morning pages.
Into your day.
Into your creative life.
