I'm going to talk a little bit about how belonging is the key to dissolving your existential or spiritual anxiety and why prediction can disrupt this.
This is going to be helpful for everyone who feels anxious,
Especially for those of you who are experiencing a spiritual or existential crisis.
And I'm going to introduce you to a couple of friends who I think can help you out.
You are different now.
Part of your mind may be resisting your new and unfamiliar identity.
Let's call that part predicty.
You may not be especially fond of the person that you've been for most or some of your life.
But the nature of predicting is to fight,
To keep you the same,
To keep you and reality predictable.
Even if it does feel utterly dreadful.
PredictE helps you to save energy and survive until tomorrow.
Predicty will be there if you ever really need help.
Unless you're in an emergency situation,
You can safely give Predicty a lovely,
Relaxing,
Peaceful holiday where he can stay forever.
Except for the rare occasions where he's actually needed.
In the meantime,
You have.
.
.
Belonging.
Belonging helps you to let your guard down.
To relax.
To feel safe.
To experience.
To sense more than you think.
To be a process more than a result.
And to be playful.
You're probably already remembering what it's like to have belonging around.
During a sport,
During playtime with friends or children,
During an amazing film or book,
Or even during meditation.
Belonging is either with you or really close all the time.
You just need to pay attention.
The more you pay attention,
The more you can notice belonging around you.
Even in challenging situations like being outraged by someone or yourself in person or online,
Like being overwhelmed by anxiety,
Stress,
Tiredness,
Uncertainty or boredom.
Belonging can be around even when predicty is around.
Predicty loves to follow Belonging's lead.
You might have noticed this even at work.
You intuitively investigate something.
You explore.
You might have a goal,
But it's not in your mind at this moment.
Then you notice insights and nuggets of meaning bubbling up as if from nowhere.
That's Belongy and Predicty working like a dream team.
Belongy leads and Predicty is the wingman or the assistant.
So you may feel like you've lost so much of who you were that there's little left to hold on to.
This can be really unsettling and sometimes even frightening.
It's not easy to just click your fingers and feel like you belong during a moment like this.
If you can manage to,
And if not.
If you can manage to and I believe you can manage to one way or another.
You can get to know belonging more and more,
And begin to feel what it feels like to belong in uncertainty,
To belong in the absence of clear identity or self,
And see in the presence of confusion.
See and feel what happens when you don't react.
When you don't resist,
Adapt or try to control a feeling.
Your presence.
Not 100% of the time,
But enough of the time.
To belong with confusion.
To belong with uncertainty.
To belong with a bit of chaos.
It's not going to happen overnight.
It takes conviction.
And determination.
But it's available.
This is how to make it work.
Let's focus on belonging.
How do you become more familiar with belonging?
How do you begin to sense him,
To feel him throughout your life,
Your experience?
You listen to one of a number of meditations I've made.
Which are belonging or belonging related.
This can help you to slow down.
And to let yourself fall blissfully.
Into belonging.
With repetition,
You can build a kind of muscle memory.
Helping you to regain contact with belonging.
Outside of meditation as well as within.
What else can you do practically to feel belonging with you?
Moment to moment.
Outside of meditation.
You can try this on now.
And come back to it again if you like.
So remember to breathe out slowly a few times.
And feel.
Don't try to seek belonging out.
Just relax into this place and trust that he will find you.
You may feel an abundance of belonging.
Or just a speck of belonging.
That's enough.
Spend two minutes noting down those moments each day in a journal to track this.
That's all.
So thank you for joining me.
I hope to meet you again in another talk or meditation.
