Write Your Soul's Poem
In this session we discuss one of the principles of taking yourself from surviving to thriving: "Write Your Soul's Poem" - Highlighting how we are in fact the authors of our own story and that by acting as if we have control, we will be able to positively sway the course of our lives.
Transcript
Write your soul's poem.
This is the final principle,
And it directly harks back to the first,
It's all on you.
But it's approaching it from a different perspective,
Highlighting that this life,
This moment,
Is all that we know,
Is all that we have.
And if we want to make something of this moment,
And every moment,
And our life in general,
We have to realize that we have agency.
We have to accept that we have agency over our life,
That we can make choices,
And those choices will impact our life positively.
When I'm saying though,
Write your soul's poem,
I'm looking at beyond just survival.
I'm looking at thriving.
This life,
The things that you are doing,
The calling that you are aiming towards,
What thriving means for you,
Is the poem.
It's beautiful,
It's wondrous,
It's evocative.
It will move you and move the world accordingly.
And it's time for you to start thinking like that.
And not just thinking,
Thinking is too much of a weak sort of placid word.
It needs to be embodied.
You need to live it,
You need to know it,
It needs to be part of your DNA.
I am writing my soul's poem with each breath,
That sort of energy.
You are the author of your own book,
You are the maker.
This life is all that you know that will come.
So it's important that we don't live just to survive.
What's the point?
What's the point of just survival?
What's the point of just getting through?
What's the point of just existing?
We need to shoot our shot,
We need to believe we can,
We need to try.
The reason why I've ending this surviving to thriving principles with the soul's poem,
With writing your soul's poem,
Is because it evokes this idea of pulling forth the artistry of our choice,
Of not just going through the motions,
Of being in flow,
In a space of creativity internally and externally,
In a space of harmony,
In a space of resonance,
In a space of doing and taking and being and becoming what we can be.
You are the author of your own book,
You need to write your soul's poem.
But how can you do that?
How can you know?
How can you head towards that?
Well it comes back to everything we've covered,
So this is a little bit of a sort of a check into all of the other stuff that we've covered,
But in order to write your soul's poem,
Well it's all on you.
You are the one taking these steps,
You are the one that has to take these actions,
It is all on you.
This is about self-agency,
And it is not only about sort of knowing that's all on you,
But it's about embodying that.
You want something to happen?
You take action,
Yeah?
Something bad happened that you wish didn't,
You have to respond to it regardless.
And a part of that,
Knowing how to do that,
Is from knowing and accepting yourself,
Who you are,
What you need in this moment and ongoing.
That's talking about turning the attention inwards,
About introspecting,
About taking the things and doing the things you need to do to get a deeper understanding of yourself.
So you can take the action,
So you can integrate,
So you can heal,
So you can grow,
So you can live honestly.
Because by living honestly,
You'll be more connected and resonant to your soul's truth,
To your soul's calling,
You'll be able to step towards the path that leads to your distant mountaintop.
You'll know where you're heading and why,
And you'll be able to get there easier,
The path will be clearer.
Now there will still be barriers,
You have to fight for yourself,
Right?
You have to keep turning up.
There will always be a reason not to go and there'll be barriers in that way,
But you have to,
And you have to act now because it is never the right time to do so.
Pick up the pen and write your soul's poem.
Now I am a poet myself,
I write literal poems.
I'm not saying for you to write a literal poem unless you're called to,
But the analogy,
The symbolism is true.
The symbolism is there because with each action and with all of our actions connecting up is like each letter of each word relating to a poem that is part of a book that evokes and projects and presents and is an embodiment of our truth,
That will stand for something beyond ourselves,
That is representation of thriving.
Everyone can survive.
Everyone that is alive now is technically surviving,
Some better than others of course,
But that's not what we want.
We want to accept ourselves as we are for who we are,
But we also want to grow.
It's that idea that we said at the very start.
The heart of true and lasting transformation lies a delicate balance between radical self-acceptance and the drive for growth,
But honouring ourselves as we are,
We create space for the evolution of who we can become.
Write your soul's poem.
Be the author of your own book and accept that you are.
Now things will happen that you don't like.
Change is inevitable.
Anybody,
Everybody's life will involve some level of suffering and failure and disappointment.
That is the nature of existence,
But we need to be able to accept that and act regardless and act now.
We talked a little bit about the idea of finding balance in all things and that our health is interconnected.
Health,
Wealth,
Spirituality,
Our body,
Our mind,
Our connections,
All of this comes together and we need to find balance in it all and one aspect of it will impact all of the aspects and the demonstration of that was the breath.
Take a breath and notice the impact on your body and your mind and subsequently if you were to do that ongoing,
How would you feel?
Yeah?
Impact your health in every aspect and watch yourself trend up over time.
Remember that there is a lag between actions and results,
But that trend will go up and you will find yourself thriving very soon.
Not instantly.
Nothing worth getting happens instantly,
But it will happen.
And the final thing to do will be to reframe the pain.
When you find yourself blocked by something,
There will be an unpick,
A barrier,
Something going on that you need to reframe or look at.
If you constantly are facing a problem head on,
Look at it from the side.
Look at it from a different angle.
Get someone's help to guide you through it.
Find someone,
Find a teacher,
A coach,
A therapist,
A friend,
A family member,
A mentor,
Someone to show you a different way of looking at things to reframe it and embody that and remember as always it is on you to do that and it is on you to take the action.
It is on you to write your soul's poem.
You are the author of your own book.
Every choice you make is another pen stroke and whether you're starting early on or later on,
Right now is the only moment that exists.
Right now is everything.
This choice and every choice is what matters.
Now we want to have all of this with balance because we don't want to overburden ourselves,
Overdo it and just fall off a cliff of overwhelm because we've overdone it.
We don't want to burn ourselves out.
It's important to know who we are and what we need to be able to trend up over time.
This is a marathon,
Not a sprint.
We're going to write our soul's poem but this isn't just a quick thing.
We are doing it day by day,
Moment by moment,
Breath by breath.
If you want to take yourself from surviving to thriving,
I encourage you to go back through these sessions and apply them to your life.
I encourage you to take notes.
I encourage you to write down and find and discover yourself and then start moving in that path.
I've talked about the idea of that distant mountaintop.
The distant mountaintop is your goal but you've got to make the path there.
The journey is more important than the destination but if you know where you're going,
At least you're on that journey.
Acting now.
Take that step.
Step in any direction because if you find that you're stepping in the wrong direction,
You'll notice that feeling because you've known and accepted yourself.
Like,
Oof,
This doesn't feel right.
At least I know and I can step into the direction that I want to be going.
Now that might involve taking a step back but you take a step back to be able to take 10 steps forward.
It is possible to take yourself from surviving to thriving.
The final thing I want to mention is these principles are my principles.
These principles are what I think works for myself in my life and what I've found works in the people that I've expressed and shared them with but it might not be what works for you.
The most important thing upon all of this is to write your soul's poem.
You are the author of your book.
Do what works for you.
Do what works for you and you'll know it's working for you if you're heading towards the goal that you want to be heading towards,
If you've got that feeling of resonance,
If things are lining up.
But you might look at what I've said here over these sessions and disagree and that's fine and I actually think you should.
You shouldn't take my truth as your truth because it can't be but you can take what I'm saying here as a guide,
As a finger pointing to the moon and as a way to step in a right direction.
Go on,
Step.
