Welcome to another episode of Silent Superheroes,
Where we use the power of silent,
Calm breathing to get real-world superpowers.
So why don't you get comfortable and take a big slow breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.
So today we're going to talk about getting ready.
Sometimes we can really struggle to get ready for things.
Maybe it's getting ready for school or seeing a friend or going to our grandparents house or maybe even going shopping and we just struggle to get our stuff done.
Now this can be a little bit upsetting to your parents or to your carers and they might start saying,
Come on mate,
Let's get ready or come on,
Let's go.
But you might want to play,
You might want to do something,
You might already be doing something and not have explained that to your parents.
And maybe they haven't explained why they need you to get ready so quickly.
So the best thing for everyone to do when we have to get ready for something is to take a big slow breath.
Let's do three breaths right now.
The good thing about taking slow calm breaths is that it helps us to calm down and to connect with one another.
Now that you've taken some slow and calm breaths,
You can use your words to explain to your parents or to your carers what you're doing and how much time you need.
And they can use their words to explain to you what they need you to do.
And if you find yourself when you're talking to each other getting a little bit frustrated or a little bit yelly,
Do you know what you do?
You just take another slow calm breath in through the nose and out through the mouth so that you calm down and are able to talk with each other in a nice way.
You ready?
Now I find that the best way to let your parents or carers know what you need is with a calm voice.
You say,
Hey,
I just need to finish up playing with this toy.
Can I have one more minute please?
Or I've just got to do a quick wee.
I've got to go to the toilet.
Is that okay?
And then you listen to their responses.
And then your parents or your carers might say to you,
Okay,
Let's get ready now.
And then they will start taking you through the things that need to be done.
But they won't tell it to you all at once,
All in one big go,
Because that might be overwhelming.
Instead,
They'll do it one by one.
And in between each thing,
You can all take some calm breaths.
You might need to get some clothes on or change your clothes or get dressed in a certain way,
Maybe with a uniform.
If that's the case,
You should go do that right now.
Maybe a bag needs to be packed.
If you're staying overnight somewhere,
Or you're going to school or kinder,
Or if you're seeing a friend,
There might be certain things that you need to put into that bag.
So why don't you pack your bag right now?
Maybe you need to get some food and some water ready with you.
And that stuff needs to be put by the door.
So why don't you get your food and your water and anything else that needs to come with you,
Like your bag or toys or anything that you're going to take.
Grab all of that stuff and put it beside the door right now.
Now it's time to ask your parents or your carers what they need you to do.
Maybe you need to brush your teeth,
Maybe you need to clean your room.
Who knows what it is?
So take a big slow breath in through the nose and out through the mouth and then we're going to ask them.
Hey,
What do I need to do to get ready?
Can you help me do that?
Great work.
Now it's time to do whatever needs to be done.
All right,
Final step is heading out the door and into the pram or into the car.
So let's work out if we're going into the pram or into the car.
Take a big slow breath and then we're going to do it.
Great work.
So the next time you have to get ready for something,
Play this recording and talk to one another with slow,
Calm breathing to help you to stay focused,
Stay calm and not yell.
And that way you can get to wherever you're going on time and happy.
Great work silent superheroes.
