Living With A Miracle In Mind
This session will begin with a guided meditation that will prime you to be ready to sit in contemplation a question designed to evoke transformation. We will then sit in silent contemplation together for 1 minute. The session will end with a shared discussion of the question and our discoveries.
Transcript
Hello and welcome to the session,
I invite you to take a seat or lay down and get yourself nice and comfortable.
You can close down the eyes if you wish and take a deep,
Slow breath in through the nose and out through the mouth.
We're going to do a progressive body scan relaxation,
So as we're going through each part of the body,
I want you to keep breathing slowly and deeply in through the nose and out through the mouth.
As your breath slows,
Your nervous system will relax and you'll begin to calm down.
This will provide a feedback loop that will impact your mind,
Because as your body calms so too will your mind and your thoughts,
Leaving you open for the contemplation and questions coming up.
Let's take another deep,
Slow breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Just turn your attention to your body,
Just let go of any tension they become aware of.
Relax your head and your face and your neck,
Unclench your jaw,
Drop your shoulders,
Just noticing and relaxing any tension in your arms,
In your hands,
In your fingers,
Just keeping that slow,
Calm breathing going for the duration,
In through the nose and out through the mouth,
And just noticing any tension in your chest or your belly or your groin,
Just letting go and releasing and relaxing,
And now onto your upper back,
Your mid-back and your lower back,
Just releasing any tension that you notice,
Your buttocks and your legs and your feet and your toes,
Just taking another slow,
Calm breath in through the nose and out through the mouth,
Just releasing any tension in the entirety of your body,
And now just turning your attention to your mind,
In a moment I'm going to ask you a question two times,
And then we're going to sit in contemplation of that question,
I'm going to approach that question with an open,
Supple and flexible mind,
One that's free of burdens and judgments and stigma,
We're going to open ourselves up to wisdom,
To the universe,
To God,
To the muse,
To our ancestors,
To the place or space that provides us strength and power,
And we're going to allow the question to just sit and percolate and expand as it will,
And we're just going to observe it as you would observe cars down a freeway,
No grasping,
No attachments,
Just watching as the answers unfold,
What if you met every problem with a miracle in mind,
What if you met every problem with a miracle in mind,
So this question,
What if you met every problem with a miracle in mind,
Immediately draws to mind the idea of the law of attraction,
There's a temptation to pull back when this idea is talked about,
But I think the law of attraction can be explained in a purely secular non-woo-woo fashion,
To me if I'm asking for something,
An opportunity,
Wealth,
Status,
Power,
Relationship,
Connection,
Something,
If I'm open to that,
If I'm looking at that,
If I'm welcoming that in,
Or even just any sort of energy,
Love or hate,
Anything,
If I'm open to things coming,
Good or bad,
I'm more likely going to see that,
If we pull this back to a basic example of a happy mindset,
Or a sad mindset,
A victim mindset,
A fearful mindset,
If I go down the street and I see something ambiguous,
Someone looking at me in a way that I'm not quite sure how to interpret it,
If I'm in a positive mindset,
An opportunistic mindset,
A welcoming mindset,
I'm more likely to interpret that ambiguity positively,
But if I'm in a closed off,
Victim based,
Scared mindset,
I'm more likely to see that ambiguity negatively,
This is important because the moment I start perceiving that ambiguity in a certain way,
My responses to it will begin to change,
If I'm expecting positivity back,
I will give positivity,
And it will become this backwards and forwards feedback loop,
In which I end up creating my own reality,
If I'm wanting to make friends,
Or connections,
Or relationships,
I need to approach the people I meet with that in mind,
Because if I'm closed off,
I will not be appealing to random people,
To strangers,
Or to even people that I know,
Because I'm closed off,
I'm closed to possibility,
This suggests that in some sense,
Your internal reality molds the external,
Now I'm not taking this to the extreme of,
If you pray for it,
You get it,
I think you need to work for it,
You need to earn it,
You need to take steps down the path towards the distant mountain that is your values,
But what I've learnt from experience is,
If I'm in a certain mood,
The world seems to reflect it,
It's like the world is a mirror to my soul,
And it gives me back what I'm putting out,
For better or worse,
It's good to know,
Because if I know that,
Then I know that I can start taking actions to impact my mind,
To meditate,
To contemplate,
To consider,
To work on myself in some capacity,
So that what I'm putting out,
I'm getting back,
And there's a beauty there,
If I met every problem with a miracle in mind,
If I,
Rather than falling over,
And bowing down,
And cowering to the fear,
And the anxiety,
And the worry,
And the doubt,
And all of the things that arise when there is a problem,
If I instead was to approach that problem with a miracle in mind,
If I was to know that something good was going to come of this,
That I would be successful,
That I would walk out of this in a way that best suited my goals,
Then I'd be more open to seeing that eventuation occurring,
I'd be more likely to see the opportunities,
I'd be welcoming the silver lining,
It won't necessarily impact my external world physically,
But it will allow me to interact,
And be flexible,
And subtle,
And weave in and out of the dance of life,
Taking in only the opportunities that I see.
For example,
If you lose your job,
And you're open to the possibility of getting a new job,
Opportunities will arise,
Because you're seeing it,
Because you're looking for it,
Because you're willing to accept those opportunities as they come.
But if you were to fall,
And doubt,
And disbelieve,
Even if an opportunity was to arise,
Even if someone was to explicitly say,
Hey,
Here's a job for you,
You might say no,
You might disbelieve it,
You might not believe in yourself enough to accept it,
There's a whole variety of things that might occur that will make you not even take the opportunity that's shoved right in front of your face.
I know this is true for me,
There is a analogy,
Or a little fable,
I guess,
Of someone that falls off a boat and is drowning in the ocean,
And he's praying,
You know,
He's treading water,
Praying for God to help him,
And someone comes by in a raft and says,
Hey,
Can I save you?
He's like,
No,
No,
God will save me.
The raft goes off,
Treading water,
Treading water,
Praying,
And then a person in a sailboat comes,
Hey,
Can I save you?
You know,
You look like you're struggling.
No,
No,
God will save me,
I'm praying,
Treading water,
Treading water,
Getting really tired now,
And a big boat comes along,
Says,
Hey,
Like I can throw you a life raft,
I can save you.
No,
No,
God will save me.
Back to treading water until this person drowns,
Goes up to heaven,
And this person indignantly says to God,
Hey,
I was praying,
Why didn't you save me?
And God responds saying,
Well,
I sent you the raft,
I sent you the sailboat,
And then I sent you another boat.
Why didn't you save yourself?
You have to be open,
You have to be willing,
You have to be looking for those miracles.
Perhaps the miracle is an offer from someone else,
Perhaps it's an internal state,
Perhaps it's something going on,
That if you're open to it,
If you were to reach every problem with a miracle in mind,
You would see it,
You would accept it,
You would embrace that miracle,
Life would get easier.
This question makes me consider what really is a miracle.
I'm not a believer in sort of overt external miracles that break the law of physics,
That sort of thing seems ridiculous.
But what I do think is that a miracle is a miracle of a mindset,
Changing my mind to believe certain things,
To see possibilities.
Because really,
That's the only thing we have actual control over.
If I can accept,
If I can change,
If I can grow,
There's power there.
But I guess there's a need to consider the opposite here.
Why can't I meet every problem with a miracle in mind?
I think that's a matter of experience.
It's easy to get in this downward trend,
This rut about what's going on in life.
It's easy to believe that things will only get worse,
That life isn't good,
That you deserve to fail,
All of these sort of negative thoughts.
So we find ourselves stuck in a rut of a downward trend,
A trajectory where we go outside,
We are in a fearful mindset,
And then we're proven right to be fearful.
And that continues,
And it can continue for a whole life.
I have a history of trauma.
I moved out of home at 16,
And when I first moved out,
I was terrified,
Terrified of everything and everyone.
And I wore that fear on my face,
And sometimes I still do.
And when I'm in that mode,
People are a bit more wary of me.
People are a bit more wary of me,
Because I'm ready.
I'm ready to run.
I'm ready to fight.
I'm scared.
Scared people seem dangerous.
They seem erratic.
People don't really want to be around them,
For better or worse.
That's the reality.
And if I'm feeling scared and I project my face outwards,
People see that,
And they interpret that,
That I'm in a heightened state.
I'm not calm.
I'm not relaxed.
Thus,
They pretend to project that back to me.
This isn't true for everyone,
Of course,
But there is truth there.
And once again,
You get into this habit.
You put your guard up.
Other people put your guard up.
Now everyone's got their guard up.
Everyone's ready.
Everyone's worried,
Right?
So it takes a concerted effort to look at every problem with a miracle in mind.
It takes daily practices of mindfulness,
Of gratitude,
Of acceptance of these sort of questions.
So I ask you,
What if you met every problem with a miracle in mind?
What if you met every problem with a miracle in mind?
So,
Thank you for joining me in this session.
If you liked this session and want more,
I encourage you to check out my recent courses on Insight Timer,
Called Discover Your Divine Purpose,
And the second one,
Questions to Heal Your Soul.
Both of those courses run in the same way that we've done this session.
A guided,
Full-body relaxation,
Followed by a mental priming to open you up for contemplation,
And then a question.
Then we discuss it,
Contemplate it.
Then we discuss the implications of the question,
And you're invited to contemplate it once more.
And at the end of each session,
You'll be encouraged to share your insights in the classroom.
These classrooms are dynamic,
And I'm getting many,
Many responses in the classroom with people sharing their insights,
And other people commenting on those insights with their own.
In this way,
We're able to synergistically grow our insights,
Learning from one another,
And creating a bit of a community.
So if you're interested in more of these sessions,
Check out those two courses here on Insight Timer,
Discover Your Divine Purpose,
And Questions to Heal Your Soul.
And thank you for joining me in this session.
Have a great day.
