In this session we discuss one of the principles of taking yourself from surviving to thriving: "Balance In All Things" - Highlighting how we need to ensure that our lives are balanced. Focusing too much or too little on one area is a recipe for breakdown and overwhelm. Instead, approach life with a view of balance and you will find peace arising and things just working out.

Balance in all things So in the previous session we had this idea,

This discussion of acting now and we've talked about the idea of it all being on us to keep turning up,

To fight for ourselves.

That's a lot of energy,

A lot of pressure,

A lot of drive and that's a good thing.

But we also need to find balance in all things.

We talked in the first session about it all being on us and knowing and accepting ourselves and part of that is knowing when to push and knowing when to relax,

Knowing when to take action and knowing when to think and contemplate.

Balance,

The middle road is important because it will help us to not go too far down one path or too far down another path.

It will help keep us in line with our true calling,

It will help keep us understanding,

It will help keep us resonant with our highest callings.

If we find ourselves taking actions,

Speaking in a certain way or stuck in certain mind frames,

Chances are we are not in balance.

If we find ourselves breaking down,

If we find ourselves tired,

If we find ourselves overwhelmed,

Chances are we are not in balance.

If we find ourselves lost or adrift or hyper-focused,

Chances are we are not in balance.

It is easy to get hyper-fixated after listening to a course like this,

After going down these sort of paths and taking actions and then sort of waking up from that halfway through and going,

Oh this isn't great or I've let my health go or I've let my relationships go.

Balance in all things is important.

Because we sort of find ourselves in the middle between two extremes,

High motivation or high laziness.

But that dichotomy is not a true dichotomy of the world.

We talked about in the second session knowing and accepting ourselves.

We need to know and accept ourselves to know when to push and to know when to relax,

To know when to work and to know when to play,

To know when to sit and to know when to sprint.

One of the things that I like to deploy in my life is just a little percentage point of balance.

I'm pushing down a path,

I'm driving towards a certain thing and that's great and that's necessary and we need to do that if we want to thrive.

We have to,

We have to push.

But what's the point of pushing if we can't also live?

I think there is a inner fear that a lot of people that would be resonating with this course would have,

That if they stop they'll fall off,

That the competition will take them over.

Or more probably deeper,

That they will be lazy,

That they will,

You know,

Insert some negative conditioning from the past.

So they push and they push and they push and they push and then they break down.

Thus they're forced to relax,

Thus they're forced to take a break.

That's not ideal,

It'd be better to take a break prior,

Based on choice,

Based on a front foot assertive decision.

Yeah I'm taking a break,

I deserve it,

I need it,

I'm attaining balance.

The other sort of person needs to push in the other direction.

They don't work enough,

They don't act enough,

They let things happen to them and then they wake up and realize that they are lacking resources,

They are lacking connections,

They are lacking what they need and then they go into this frenzy to get it,

And to become overwhelmed and broken down.

Balance in all things.

If you are in a relationship with someone,

You want to be with them a lot of course,

But you also need alone time away from them and with other people.

Too much alone time and too much away time though,

And that relationship ends.

I approach this idea of balancing all things,

Like I said,

With this one percenter,

With this idea,

With this suggestion to myself,

Reminding myself at the end of each day,

Did I find a balance here?

Have I looked after my health,

Wealth,

Spirituality,

Relationships,

Connections,

Community,

Business?

Have I got balance?

And if it's a no,

And some days,

Most days are a no in one of those categories or more,

Then I just chalk it up in my mind going okay,

I need to work on these other aspects because I value them.

Now if I don't value those other things,

If I don't have a practice of spirituality,

Or a hobby,

Or a community,

Or a family,

Or whatever it is,

Then feel free to cross that off,

But chances are a healthy existence has those things.

So chances are you need to find balance in all of those things.

But balance in all things also gives us a bit of an insight.

If you find yourself,

As we talked about in one of the previous sessions,

Feeling like a bit of a doormat,

Feeling like people are using you,

Feeling like you're living for other people,

And you've got that feeling and you're like this isn't great,

Well,

You haven't got balance in all things.

Anytime you feel a feeling of incongruence,

Of dissonance,

Of annoyance about an aspect of your life,

That's pointing to a lack of balance,

And that pointing to the lack of balance will point you in the right direction of what you need to do.

So do it,

But just make sure that you don't overcompensate and do too much of that other thing as well.

Balance in all things.

This track is taken from my course From Surviving to Thriving.

10 Principles to Turn Your Life Around.

It's out now and available on my InsightTimer profile.
