It is easy to accept and embrace the good aspects of life and the self, but what about the problems, the darkness and inner demons? In this session we contemplate the impact of avoidance and our inaction in addressing the problems we uncover. This track is taken from my course, ‘Questions To Heal Your Soul’, available now via my profile.

Hello and welcome to session 10 of the course Questions to Heal Your Soul.

I invite you to take a seat or lay down and get yourself comfortable.

You can close down the eyes if you wish and take three slow deep breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.

So as we come into this session,

Let's take a moment to relax our bodies and open up our minds to possibility,

To purpose,

To potential.

Let's keep doing those slow calm breaths and just gently work yourself down your body from your head to your toes,

Noticing and then relaxing each muscle in turn.

Relax the muscles in your neck and your head and your face.

Just unclench your jaw.

Drop and loosen your shoulders.

Acknowledge and release any tension in your arms and your hands and your upper back,

Your mid back,

And your lower back,

Down through to your buttocks.

Take another slow deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Just gently relax your chest and your belly,

Your groin,

And continue that relaxation down your legs and into your calves and your feet.

Just take a moment to notice any tensions in the entirety of your body and just let them gently fall aside,

Let go.

As we settle into this practice,

We're going to turn our attention to our mind and begin to open it up to the universe,

To God,

To intuition,

To our ancestors,

To the muse,

To the place or space that we draw our power from.

I'm going to approach today's question with a desire to receive wisdom,

To stand for what is possible,

For our potential.

Approaching this question with flexibility,

With a supple mind,

One that's capable of considering and trying unique and new things.

In a moment,

I'm going to ask you a question twice.

And then we're going to sit in silence and just let the answers to that question unfold.

What am I avoiding?

What am I avoiding?

So the question,

What am I avoiding?

Forces us to directly look at directly look at the very parts of us and of our worlds that we don't want to face.

The inner demons,

The problems,

The issues that we're running from.

It forces us to consider the things we're not really,

Or haven't been really comfortable considering.

As those things come to mind,

The things we've been avoiding,

We start to wonder why.

Why have we been avoiding these things?

Why have we been running from them?

Why haven't we addressed them?

What is it about ourselves that has precluded us from taking action already?

Is it a lack of ability,

A lack of opportunity?

A lack of ability,

A lack of opportunity,

Fear,

Expectation?

What is it that has caused us to step away and move away and live a life that is lesser,

That is lower?

This question,

What am I avoiding?

It reveals a whole lot in every aspect of my life.

Parts of my mind,

Parts of my body,

Parts of my soul.

You know,

The shadow.

We've talked about shadow work in other questions in this course and in other courses,

But shadow work can be healing.

But there's a reason that we often avoid it.

It's because to turn and look at our own darkness,

To turn and look at the shadow,

To turn and look at the things that we've kept hidden,

It feels scary.

Scary on an existential level,

Because there's parts of me that I know that I'm avoiding.

Desires,

Wishes,

Aspects of my personality that feel like it shouldn't be shared or shouldn't be shown,

And thus I've run from it.

I've avoided it.

I've made that part of me lesser,

Lower.

So now I move away from it,

And I'm left with a hole or a blockage or a blackness,

Something in me that I don't want to look at.

But what would it mean to turn and look at those things?

What would it mean to face the darkness?

I think it would mean that I'd be living a more fulfilled,

True,

Connected life.

It means that I would be approaching completeness more thoroughly.

It means that were a problem to arise,

Something that I could have potentially avoided or something that I've caused myself,

I would at least know where that's coming from.

If I avoid my shadow,

I'm turning away from it,

And thus I'm not able to reconcile it.

It will be causing issues in my life that I can't quite heal from because I'm not aware of them fully.

The idea of knowing what I'm avoiding and then taking action to not avoid it leads to healing,

Leads to growth,

Leads to a positive future because I'm no longer avoiding these things because I know when they're arising,

Because I can see and counter the things that are coming.

And then if we apply this same logic to every aspect of my life,

My relationships,

My jobs,

My roles,

Avoiding doesn't fix the problem.

Avoiding just perpetuates it.

It just kicks the can down the road a little bit longer.

And yeah,

I can hope that the world will resolve those problems for me,

But chances are I'll have to be the one.

I'll have to be the one to take action,

To step,

To move,

To take and do the things necessary to grow and heal.

This whole course is talking about questions to heal your soul,

And this is why this is the last question of the course.

If we can discover what we're avoiding and then slowly and safely turn and stop avoiding those things,

Perhaps,

Perhaps then we'll be able to seek some healing.

Perhaps then we'll be able to grow.

Perhaps then we'll be able to step towards and through our problems.

Perhaps then we'll be able to become more than what we are right now.

So I ask you,

What are you avoiding?

What are you avoiding?

Well done.

This brings us to the end of the session.

At the bottom of your screen,

You'll see an option to view the classroom or to ask a question.

Before moving on,

I invite you to take a moment to click through and share your insights,

To read the answers from other students and to hear my replies.

Remember to start your responses with session 10 or to restate the question,

What am I avoiding?

So we all know which question you're referring to.

This is an opportunity for deep learning,

Further introspection and insight.

So please don't miss out.

And considering that this is the last session of this course,

I'd like to remind you that over time,

These questions will reverberate.

And as you grow and as you change and as you heal,

These questions will provide further insights.

And the contemplating of these questions at a later stage will provide further healing and growth because you'll be approaching them from a different perspective.

So with that in mind,

I encourage you to,

At some later stage,

Return to this course and ask yourself these questions once again,

To look over your previous responses and to make new ones.

Because in that way,

You will see and feel and embody that growth.

And I would also encourage you to take my other course,

Discover Your Divine Purpose,

Here on Insight Timer.

That course is structured in the same way as this course.

It has 10 different questions that you can choose to engage with and ponder in the same way.

So check out that course,

Discover Your Divine Purpose,

And come back to this one as well.

I look forward to seeing you there.

And thank you for joining me in this course.

This track was taken from the course,

Questions to Heal Your Soul.

It's out now on Insight Timer and available via my profile.

I invite you to join in.
