An Introduction To Intuitive Guidance
This session introduces the core principles of Intuitive Guidance and the benefits it offers. You will learn how to identify the unprocessed experiences that show up as tension in the body, and how turning inward with compassionate curiosity and calm confidence, we can begin the process of listening to the messages they hold and learning how to offer them the space they need to release. This track was taken from my course, Intuitive Guidance For Self Healing.
Transcript
Hello and welcome to the first session of intuitive guidance for self-healing.
This first session will be an overview of the practice and give you a little bit of a rundown of what to expect in the course.
Intuitive guidance at its core is a practice that will help you to release old wounds,
Reintegrate lost parts and reconnect with your true self.
It holds to a couple of core premises or core beliefs.
The first one being that the body keeps the score.
The idea that throughout our lives we're exposed to events or circumstances that at the time are too overwhelming or too much to process.
So our body holds on to them.
It holds on to them in the form of pain,
Tension,
Numbness,
Blockage,
Illness.
And until we take the time to pay attention to the tension,
To reconnect with that part and offer it an opportunity to express and release,
The body keeps the score and we hold on to those wounds and the impacts of continue to reverberate into our lives.
We also hold to the premise that emotions and feelings that our body is holding on to are in fact messages.
Things that we need to hear,
Things that we need to understand,
Things that if we could just process would allow those parts of the body to release and return to normal functioning.
The process of intuitive guidance begins by first setting up the space.
We ensure that we're not going to be disturbed,
That we're safe and that we're comfortable.
We also ensure that we have access to time and the resources of self-care to bring us back to the present moment if we need and to go at a pace that we feel comfortable with.
We start by setting an intention.
We're going to approach and accept everything that arises with an attitude of compassionate curiosity and calm confidence.
As we go through the process of connecting to our body and in turn to the feelings and the messages and the things that it's holding on to,
We're returning to parts of our past.
And this will inevitably bring up different feelings,
Different emotions,
Different memories,
Perhaps different visualizations.
And we try to approach whatever comes with an attitude of mindful acceptance.
It's not good,
It's not bad,
It's just what's arising.
This is just what's happening.
By approaching what's arising with this attitude,
The parts of our body learn that we are accepting,
That we are listening,
That we are there.
And over time,
And with deeper practice,
These parts begin to share,
Release,
And unburden.
And we feel a profound sense of healing and connection.
I call this practice intuitive guidance because the way that I'll help guide you through it is intuitive.
I'm offering suggestions that draw from a collection of different theories and practices,
But ultimately it's a process of internal discovery.
I'm offering you a way or a suggestion,
But it's on you to take it and work with it in a way that works for you.
You need to be the one to take yourself deeply.
You need to be the one to turn the attention to the body.
You need to be the one to lead yourself through this process.
And indeed,
Your parts need to trust you in this process.
But the good thing is that there is a deep,
True part of you that can lead this process.
The self,
The deeper part of you,
The wise core within,
The part that is in line,
If you're religious,
With God,
Or with flow,
With the Tao,
The highest part of you.
Now,
If you haven't experienced this part,
Or you don't use or like those labels,
A different way to look at this core aspect of yourself is through the idea of a profound inner quiet.
You'll know you're on the right path,
You'll know you're taking the right steps,
You'll know you're doing the right thing when you feel this profound inner quiet,
When you start to feel the physical,
Emotional,
Or spiritual releases during the process.
Perhaps you'll feel shivers up and down your body,
Or you'll find a profound sense of insight or connection.
Either way,
As we go through the process,
As we connect with these parts of the body,
And go deeper with them,
You will intuitively know where to go,
And how deep to push.
And you'll also know if you need to pause,
And return back to the room.
It's here that I would like to remind you that everything I'm saying is just a finger pointing to the moon,
It's just a suggestion.
To make this practice trauma-informed,
I have to let you know that at any time,
You can stop,
You can pull out,
You can return to the present moment.
And indeed,
Track number three is just a grounding meditation,
A present state awareness practice designed to help you do just that,
And I encourage you to use that at any time if you need to.
But more so,
I encourage you to listen to this deepest,
Truest part of you,
To track your progress,
And to go slow.
If you need to tweak or change the practice,
If you need to stop or start,
That's okay.
We're going deep,
We're looking into the past,
We are looking into things that we've held on to.
So it's okay to take your time,
It's okay to go slow,
And it's also okay to allow these parts to release.
In session number two,
The next session will be a guided session.
It will take you deep,
And it will take you through the entire intuitive guidance process.
But in general,
This is what will happen.
We set up the space,
And then we settle the nervous system down with some slow,
Calm breathing.
From there,
We move to a body scan,
From head to toe,
Just paying some attention to the different body parts.
And we find a part that we feel intuitively called to work with,
And we get curious about what is arising,
Noting down the physical sensations,
And any other internal mental phenomena that is arising,
Being open to whatever comes,
Without judgment,
Without filter.
Then we ask this internal part some questions,
Inviting it to tell us what it needs us to know,
To see,
To feel,
And to understand.
We just sit with that part,
And allow it to express it.
It might express words,
But often the stuff that it's holding on to is pre- or post-verbal.
That means that it might express with visualizations,
Or sounds,
Or memories,
Or concepts,
Or perhaps like a movie,
Or imagery.
These things might be interpretive or symbolic,
Or might be straightforward,
Might make sense,
Or might make no sense.
But either way,
Whatever arises,
We just are there for it.
We're just listening.
We're just connecting.
We take this part,
And whatever it's sharing with us,
In the same way that we would take a sad or distressed child,
Someone that we love,
That we want to care for.
We may not necessarily instantly understand what is wrong,
But we're noticing some distress,
So we're just there for them.
We're listening.
We're comforting.
We're holding space.
And the final part is,
We return back to this part with the breath.
On the in-breath,
We add some loving-kindness and compassion,
And on the out-breath,
We invite the part to release.
Everything we're doing here is not a command,
It's just an offer.
That's the attitude we take,
This attitude of compassionate curiosity and calm self-led confidence,
Allowing us and our parts to connect and integrate and release,
If it chooses to,
If it feels safe enough to do so.
Oftentimes during this practice,
Our parts will ask us for something,
Maybe some self-care,
Maybe some other thing,
Something to start,
Something to stop,
A conversation that needs to be had,
A self-commitment,
A habit to begin,
Or something to quit.
And if it's at all within our capacity to do so,
We offer this part,
That thing,
We give it to the part.
And the final thing we do is offer to return.
We commit to come back to the practice,
The idea being that what we're uncovering is a part of our past,
Something that we held on to.
And whilst some things initially and instantly release,
Oftentimes the deeper stuff takes work and takes time.
It's a trust-building process.
We're trying to reconnect with a forgotten or long-lost part of ourself.
This process takes time and it needs to know that you're not just going to leave it,
That you're not just going to touch upon it and then walk away.
And it also needs to know that you have the capacity and the fortitude to continue,
To not break down from this work.
So we commit to coming back to the part,
Maybe the next day or the next week,
Coming back to this part and going through the process again as deeply and as often as it needs.
So that's the basic process of intuitive guidance.
And indeed,
The next session will be a long-form guided session that will take you deeply into that practice.
I encourage you to set aside the time and really commit to the practice.
The more you honour that space,
The more the space will honour you,
And the more your parts will begin to trust and open and release.
Like I said,
Session three will be a grounding meditation that will help you just to return to the present state.
Like I said,
If at any time you feel the need to pull out,
To stop and to grain yourself in the present moment,
Return to track number three.
In session four,
We'll recap the process and talk about how to instill a self-practice of intuitive guidance,
How to take the practice into your life,
And how to get the most from these sessions.
And we'll finish with session five,
A shorter guided daily session that assumes you've done the guided session or some self-work and have discovered some internal parts to work with.
The idea of session five is that you can do it as a daily practice of connecting to the inner core self and speaking to the different parts you've been working with from that place as a way to reconnect,
Reprocess,
Reintegrate,
And perhaps even release.
So with all that said,
I invite you to get yourself comfortable,
To settle in and get ready for the guided session in session two.
But before we do that,
I just want to add an offer and a reminder that if at any time you have any questions,
Any insights,
Any discoveries,
Or anything else that you would like to share,
To please do so in the classroom.
I'll be there to answer those questions,
To offer insights,
And to help you go deeper.
There's no need to share if you don't feel comfortable,
But if you do,
The dialogue that we get can help you to perhaps process and move through,
Perhaps go a little bit deeper,
Perhaps provide some unlocks.
It'll be an intuitive process of guidance,
But one that I hope you get some value from.
So open offer for questions,
Comments,
Insights,
Or anything else you would like to share.
So with all that said,
I'll see you in the next session.
