Reconnecting To Your True Self - Neti Neti Meditation
Reconnect to your inner divine self, releasing the weight of roles, labels, jobs, titles to feel lighter, freer. Neti neti is a beautiful practice to remind ourselves that we are so much more than our things or ideas or bodies and to give us a sweet respite from the layers of all of these things. This track includes some journaling suggestions.
Transcript
Welcome to your meditation practice.
So go ahead and make yourself comfortable however you want to.
Cross legged or you can be seated on a chair,
Back up against a wall.
But settle yourself in,
Roll your shoulders back,
Lift your chest,
Engage your core just a little bit here.
And whenever you're ready,
Go ahead and close your eyes.
Feel yourself grounding through your seat.
Settling into your space around you.
And take a few breaths to connect to your body,
Sensing your feet against the floor,
Your hips,
Whatever they're seated on,
The length of your spine,
Your shoulders softening down the back,
Wherever your hands touch your knees or your seat.
And then begin to notice your breath.
Become aware of how your breath is right here and now without any changes.
Noticing if you're feeling any changes or if you're feeling any changes.
Noticing if your breath is right here and now without any changes.
Noticing if it's fast or slow,
If it's energetic or very quiet.
Just knowing the state of the breath as you start your practice.
And then taking these next few breaths and just taking a few breaths to connect.
Checking in with your body,
Noting any spaces that may need some extra care or awareness or love or breath today.
No judgment,
Just noting these areas.
And then that same way,
Taking note of your emotional state right now.
This may be,
This is your starting point of your meditation practice.
Here again,
No judgment.
And then coming back to your breath.
And I want you here to visualize the world.
Maybe it's everything you've heard on the news or watched on the news or read recently.
All the things happening all around the world.
Good and bad.
Positive or negative,
Uplifting or downtrodden.
Whatever it is,
Take a moment here to connect to the world,
The global community and whatever's going on there that you're aware of.
And knowing that you are a part of this global community,
That you are connected in some way to it,
You are part of humanity as a whole,
And you are connected in some way to it.
You are part of humanity as a whole,
A member in the global community.
I want you to say to yourself,
I am not my global community.
I am not something going on in a country far away.
I am not something happening right here in my country or space.
I am not the good or the bad news.
I am part of this world and it affects me and I'm connected to it,
But I am not it.
It does not define me.
And I want you to visualize your own community,
Your sphere of influence as it is,
Your personal group of people that you connect with daily or weekly or monthly,
People at the grocery store or the coffee shop or your community events or what's happening locally in your town or your community,
Your area.
Connecting to all the positive and negative there,
Whatever you feel about it,
All the things happening in your community.
And I want you to say to yourself,
I am not my sphere of influence,
My small global community for me.
I am connected to it.
I am part of it,
But I am not it.
It does not define me.
And as if you're taking off layers and layers of clothing,
Maybe this your hat and scarf or your earmuffs and slowly kind of feeling a little bit more weightless,
A little bit lighter.
And I want you to visualize all of your things,
Your property,
The things in your home or your space,
All of your things,
Whether they be items that you can touch or see,
Or whether they be money in the bank or debt that you have.
I want you to visualize all those things and feel your connection to those things and your relationship with those things,
Your property.
And I want you to say to yourself,
I am not my things.
I am not my apartment or my house.
I am not my car.
I am not my bank account or my debt.
These things are part of my life and I am connected to them,
But they do not define me.
And now imagining your workspace,
Whether that be a home worker or an office worker or an outdoor worker,
Whatever labels or roles that you hold as a job or a title,
Whatever jobs you do and roles you hold in that,
Positive and negative,
Connecting to all those roles,
Noticing the number of roles and labels that you take on,
Whatever your jobs may be.
You're the gardener,
You're the housekeeper,
You're the office worker.
Even if you are not employed presently,
There are roles and jobs that you play every single day in a work status.
And even though you do those things and you're connected to those things and they're part of your life,
Say to yourself,
I am not my work.
I am not my job or my lack of a job or my titles or roles that other people gave me or that I took on.
These roles and titles in this work do not define me.
Then visualizing your personal relationships,
Your friendships,
Your family relationships,
Your roles and titles and labels here as a friend,
A supporter,
A daughter,
A sister,
A mother,
A son,
A father,
A child,
A parent,
A cousin,
An aunt,
An uncle.
Whatever those roles or titles that exist in your personal relationships,
Connect to all of those,
All those feelings that go with that,
All of those responsibilities that go with those roles and titles.
And here again,
Just thinking about sort of removing those next few heavy pieces of clothing,
Maybe your coat,
Maybe your sweater,
Feeling yourself getting a little bit lighter each time you tell yourself,
I am not my personal or family relationships.
I'm connected to them.
I care about them.
They are meaningful to me,
But I am not them and they do not define me.
And then visualizing your body,
Whatever you feel about your body,
What are emotions or thoughts you have regarding this physical form that you have.
However you define yourself in this physical form,
Whatever roles,
Titles,
Or labels that you have placed on this body that you have,
Connect to that.
And here again,
Say to yourself,
I am not my body.
I am not any of those roles,
Titles,
Or labels I have placed on my body or others may have placed on my body.
This is my body.
I live here,
But I am not defined by it.
It is not me.
It does not define me.
Here,
Moving a little bit deeper,
Feeling a little bit lighter each time you pull one of these roles,
Titles,
Or labels off and set it off to the side,
I want you to visualize the space where your thoughts and your feelings,
Your beliefs are.
You have thoughts and you have feelings and you have beliefs,
But here again say to yourself,
I am not my feelings.
I am not my thoughts.
I am not my beliefs.
I have them and they are meaningful to me and I am connected to them,
But they do not define me.
Feeling this lightness of being,
This openness,
This space,
This weightlessness that comes from letting go of all the roles,
Titles,
Labels,
Feelings,
Thoughts,
Beliefs that you have and not disconnecting from them,
But recognizing that they do not define you.
Sensing that core self without all of these things,
Without the global community,
Your personal sphere of influence,
Your property,
Your work,
Your relationships,
Your body,
And your thoughts,
Feelings,
And beliefs.
Somewhere inside of all of these things,
Once you pull them away and set them off to the side,
Is a beautiful,
Pure essence of you.
It is always there for you and it is not defined by any of these outside things.
Feel the lightness and the love and the joy that comes with recognizing the purity of your inner self,
The perfection that is you,
The divine inside of you.
Now very gently begin to look at those things you set aside for a moment and start to kind of pull those things back in,
But with a totally different perspective,
That they are not constricting you or restricting you.
They are not restricting you.
They are not restricting you.
They are not restricting you.
They are not constricting you or restricting you.
They are not you.
And gently putting back on all those pieces of clothing.
You are connected to all of these things.
They are part of your life.
They are part of you,
But they are not you.
You are this divine inner light that exists inside of you,
Separate but connected,
Unique and beautiful in every single way.
Embrace that divine self,
Knowing that none of these things on the outside define you.
They just are things that you have happen in your life,
That you are connected to,
That you share some relationship with.
Whenever you are ready,
Go ahead and bring your hands to your heart.
Open your eyes.
This is a practice to come back to really often to remind yourself that whatever roles,
Titles,
Or labels are placed on you by others or yourself.
They're just that.
They're roles,
Labels,
And titles.
They may have a little bit of an emotional link to them.
They may have a personal link to them.
They have meaning or connection,
But they don't define you.
You have a very special divine perfect inner core that is you.
These things are just on the outside.
I hope you enjoy this practice.
This is called a neti-neti meditation.
It means I am not.
Great to sit down and write out maybe some of the roles,
Labels,
And titles that you hold or think of throughout your life.
I think you will be amazed at how many titles,
Roles,
Jobs,
Property,
Things that you can think of.
They kind of just weigh you down a little bit because you feel like they're kind of restricting you or constricting you and holding you in from being the real true you,
That they're hiding that true you.
Just peel those off.
Know that they're just like an item of clothing.
They can be put off for a few minutes,
Taken off for a time.
They're not what's really inside of you.
I wish you a wonderful week.
Namaste.
