Let's begin by finding a comfortable position.
Rest your hands on your thighs,
Lengthen your spine,
And close your eyes.
Let's take a few deep breaths,
And with each exhale,
Feel your body relax just a little bit more.
Inhale calm,
And exhale stress.
Inhale peace,
Exhale negativity.
Exhale serenity,
Exhale fear.
Feel your body softening,
Relaxing,
Settling in against the surface that you're sitting on or lying on.
Today's meditation is all about taking action.
Others and scientists agree,
Taking off a band-aid with one strong sharp tug hurts less than dragging out the process.
This makes sense because the quicker you pull it off,
The less time you're spending pulling on the sensitive skin.
The sting of taking it off so quickly might be a little sharper,
But it goes away as quickly as it began.
And the same can hold true when we put off taking action on something in our lives that we know we need to do.
We know we need to take this action,
But we dread the way that it'll feel.
We dread the frustration,
The stress,
The sadness.
Maybe what we dread is giving those feelings to someone else by taking this action.
But just like a band-aid,
The longer we ignore taking this action,
The more it hurts.
And if we simply take action,
We can feel a short,
Sharp sting and then be done with it.
I'd like you to think about something that you have been trying to avoid thinking about.
Maybe your car is leaking some fluid.
Maybe you know you need a new transmission,
But it's going to wipe out your savings.
Maybe it's a relationship that you need to end.
Maybe you need to break up with a romantic partner or a friend.
Think about this thing that you have been avoiding thinking about.
Examine this thing.
Why are you avoiding it?
What are you afraid of?
What are you resisting?
What are you trying to avoid having happen or having to feel?
Now,
I'd like you to consider.
What rapid action could you take?
How could you face these worries head on?
Maybe you could call your auto mechanic today to get a car problem checked out.
Maybe you can adjust your budget to pay a bill.
Maybe you could have that difficult conversation with your partner or your friend.
What is the one rapid action,
The one thing that you could do today,
Right now,
To face this worry head on?
As best you can visualize yourself taking this action.
See yourself calling the mechanic or working on your budget or having that conversation.
What is the one thing that you could do today?
Now,
As best you can.
Imagine how it would feel after you have taken this action.
Imagine the relief you might feel after finding out what is wrong with your car or ending a relationship that was not healthy.
As best you can imagine how much lighter you might feel,
How much happier you might be.
Imagine as best you can all the good feelings that you would feel after taking this action.
What is the one thing you could do today?
Hold on to these imagined feelings and allow them to be your motivation to go out and take that action that you visualized.
Allow those good feelings to push you into taking that action today.
Compare them to the way you felt before and use them to go forward and rip the band-aid off and do that one thing that you can do today.
When you're ready,
Return to the present moment and space that you're in.
Take a couple of deep breaths,
Stretch your body,
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
