So a lot of people come up to me and they tell me,
Hey,
I want to meditate,
But I don't know how.
And well in mindfulness,
There is no right or wrong way to meditate.
I mean there is no possible way to mess it up.
So what we're going to do today is we're going to talk about some meditation myths or some things that I have heard and just show you the way I meditate.
So the first thing people tell me is,
Okay,
So to meditate I have to have a blank mind.
And that's literally impossible or just very hard to do.
So in meditation,
What we try to do is we observe those thoughts as if we are an outsider.
And we just imagine that they are a little cloud and we let them fly by.
When we meditate,
We try to control our thoughts.
And once we get used to it,
Or once we start meditating for a while and we observe our thoughts as an outsider,
We'll be able to see what our thoughts want to show us.
For example,
If it's patience or if we just had to be more aware in that moment.
But the idea is that we observe them as an outsider.
And the third meditation myth,
Well,
Meditation means sitting in awkward positions.
And that's absolutely false.
You can meditate lying down on your bed or on the floor,
Taking a shower or walking or sitting down.
Like I said,
There is no right or wrong way to meditate.
The next meditation myth I always hear is that people who meditate are always so peaceful.
Well that's false.
We have a right to feel angry.
We have a right to feel happy.
We have a right to cry.
And it's okay to feel.
The next one is meditation is our religion.
And that's false.
I've seen more and more people who want to meditate because they've seen the results,
They've read the research studies that it shows that meditation reduces stress,
Anxiety,
It boosts productivity and happiness.
And I feel that more and more people are becoming aware of it and they want to do it.
So what we're going to do right now is we're going to do a short meditation exercise.
So I would like you to sit,
Lie down in a comfortable position or however you want to meditate.
And what we're going to do right now is we're going to focus on our breathing.
So we're going to inhale and exhale.
Breathe in and breathe out.
We're going to breathe in for three seconds.
Hold it for another three seconds and let it out for three seconds.
We're going to do the exercise again.
Breathe in and breathe out.
And like I mentioned before,
It's okay if thoughts come up to your mind.
Observe them.
Imagine they are a cloud.
Let them go.
Focus on your breathing.
Breathe in and breathe out.
Focus on how your lungs expand while you're breathing.
Try to do this for five,
Ten minutes a day and be consistent.
Do it every day.
And remember,
If any thoughts come up to your mind,
Observe them as if you are an outsider.
And it's okay to have that monkey mind,
To have all those thoughts in your head.
It's okay.
Focus on your breathing.
Focus on how you breathe in and breathe out.
Focus on how your lungs expand.
And thank you so much for listening.
