Brain Retraining Meditation to Turn Towards and Befriend the sensations of Anxious Attachment and introduce the felt sense of Secure Attachment. In this track, we resource ourselves with breath and presence, then turn towards our sensations, thoughts, resistance, and urges, allowing and befriending what is. Then we move into a visualization of a mom and baby animal, where we get to create and integrate a new experience.

Welcome to From Anxious to Secure.

Find a comfortable position and allow your body to gently relax.

Notice where the floor or the bed is supporting you.

And allow your breath to slowly deepen,

Imagining the breath coming in and out of the center of the chest.

As you breathe in,

Imagine a glowing light expanding.

And as you breathe out,

See it flowing through your entire body.

Allow a smile on your face.

And maybe bring to mind something or someone that is easy to love.

And allow that feeling to fill you.

Now,

When you're ready,

Bring to mind a relationship or a relationship challenge where you've been feeling anxious,

Longing,

Left out,

Always chasing.

And just bring it to mind and notice the sensations that come up in your body.

Bring your gentle breath to those sensations,

Naming them,

Allowing the breath to move around the edges.

Maybe it feels like tension or butterflies.

Maybe it feels warm or cool or like an emptiness.

Just bringing your breath there,

Naming it,

Allowing it to be exactly as it is.

If resistance to the sensations come up,

Just welcoming that as well.

Now imagine that you're extending some of that warmth that you cultivated at the beginning,

That loving golden heart,

And extend that warmth to these sensations,

Letting them know that they're seen,

They're loved,

They're welcome.

Take a few more breaths with the sensations,

Whether they have been bigger or smaller or changed.

Any way they show up now is fine.

And imagine scooping them up and just lovingly tucking them into your body,

Letting them know that we're going to go on a little bit of an adventure together.

Just adjusting your body and finding some comfort and ease,

Allowing the breath to breathe you,

Be exactly how it is.

We're going to move into a visualization,

And this visualization is going to take place in a beautiful spot in nature.

And in this visualization,

You are going to be a baby animal,

Any type you choose,

And you're going to be with your loving,

Safe mother.

So take a minute and see what animal comes to mind.

Myself,

I've been a rabbit,

Cheetah,

Cub,

Or baby bear.

Once you have it and you have your landscape,

Just imagine yourself in that little fuzzy body.

Notice the ground that's underneath you and the fresh air and the sky,

And notice the warmth and the presence of your mother there with you.

Turn around and make eye contact and notice the gentleness of her gaze,

As if you are the most precious little thing she has ever known.

The sense of belonging blossoming in your heart,

The joy moving through your little body,

Maybe making it shake a little bit with happiness.

Notice that she knows exactly what you need.

Maybe just as your tummy starts to rumble,

She's there with food.

Or when you're ready to play,

She rolls over on her.

You walk together,

You eat together,

You snuggle together.

There is such ease and joy and peace in this relationship.

Notice what it feels like to have her pick through your fur,

Maybe groom you,

How you're supported by her,

Supported also by the earth underneath you.

And there's nothing for you to do but to be cared for.

Your heart is open and you gaze lovingly at your mother,

And she gazes lovingly back to you.

Spend some time in that gaze,

In that feeling,

In that feel.

And you notice how steady your mother is,

Calm,

Fierce when needed,

Gentle when needed.

She has a steady,

Calm presence.

And when you're in it,

You feel at such ease.

The sky is starting to change and night is coming,

And this is your favorite time.

You snuggle in to your mother and just rest in her relaxation.

You can see that she feels safe and peaceful and at ease.

And you hear the slow and steady beat of her cuddling a little bit more.

And she surrounds you with her body,

With her love,

With her ease.

And you feel a sense of belonging,

Connection,

And it travels into every cell of your body.

I am loved,

I am wanted,

My needs are met with ease.

You feel the blueprint of your mother's nervous system,

Steady,

Peaceful,

Fierce,

Loving.

And you notice you have that in you too,

As your heart's rate matches your mother's.

You slowly drift off to sleep,

Feeling a golden light in your heart,

In your mother's heart,

Connecting,

Moving through every part of your body like a cocoon,

Allowing that to sink deeply into you,

That security,

That belonging,

That love is your truth,

That is cellular,

Basking in this as long as you would like to.

And when you're ready,

Slowly,

Kindly coming back to the room,

Into your space,

And opening your eyes.

Great practice. Not entirely comfortable with this (my brain has questions!) but useful and positive, and I feel better after it. Thanks for the gift.

It feels like serendipity that I’ve just found you. This meditation is so what I need and it reached a very deep place in me. Tears came almost as soon as I heard your voice, followed by many deep yawns and sighing. When you said something about being cared for without needing to do anything, it resonated so deeply, and I realised at the cellular level that this is what I had always craved. It feels as though this as an important step in my healing. I am going to explore your other meditations but will try and take it slowly. I feel deep gratitude for you. Namaste πŸ™

This meditation is great, but potentially very triggering for people with complex trauma, do be careful if you’re feeling low or unstable, and you can always do just a little bit and come back again another time. If I tried this a couple years ago, I’d have screamed my lungs out in pain, the fact that I was able to stay calm and in my body the whole time makes me feel proud of my healing journey thus far. Thank you, Simona πŸ™πŸ»
