I think the idea that we have 5 (or even 6!) senses is sometimes overlooked.  If you have the privilege of sight, we sometimes rely on this more than our other senses.  For example, have you ever been having a conversation with someone and for some reason you have stopped listening to what they are saying and can only focus on their hand movements and gestures?  All of a sudden, you've blocked out the noise you were listening to and are primarily watching what is happening.  This doesn't mean that you don't hear the sound, rather that you've just adjusted your presence in that moment to block out the sound and be informed by what you see. This meditation guides you to engage with each of your senses so that you can tap into what they are telling you in that moment.  This is a great skill that you can use when you feel like you are getting 'lost' in a situation and need to bring yourself back to your body. Namaste.

Hello and welcome to sound healing meditations with Kate from True Sound.

This is a guided meditation podcast that uses the magic of sound healing to help you reconnect with your body's natural vibrational resonance.

My name is Kate and I'm excited to guide you on your meditation journey today.

So go ahead and make sure you're comfortable,

Preferably in a lying down position covered in a blanket and an eye mask,

Either using headphones or a good quality speaker and enjoy your next few minutes of solitude.

Today's meditation is focused on the last piece of the puzzle in terms of building your mindfulness muscle.

Today we explore your five senses and allow you to dive even further into the wilderness of your body and how it interacts with the outside world.

We will focus in particular on your sense of taste,

Touch and smell given our previous meditations have focused on the auditory and visual senses.

Engaging with all five senses is a great way to bring yourself into the present moment and truly connect with yourself here and now.

It can also bring up memories of feelings,

Events,

People or emotions as you tap into that sense.

If this happens during the meditation simply observe what has arisen,

Notice its presence and then allow it to pass on as you glide on through connecting to your next sense.

So let's begin and become extra comfy in your chosen position.

Eyes are closed,

Relaxing down deeply into the pillows or cushions that support your body and take a cleansing inhalation through the nose and exhale out of the mouth.

Closing the mouth just gently breathing in and out of the nose.

Repeat to yourself the following affirmation.

I am connected with my five senses,

They interpret the world around me.

I am not reactive to what they perceive.

I choose how I wish to respond in each and every moment.

Visualize your body in its space here and now.

Visualize the walls around you,

The ceiling above you,

The floor beneath you.

Notice the colors of the space you are in.

Observe the textures,

Notice how everything is still and supported.

Feel the items that are supporting your body as you rest down in your chosen position.

The cushions,

The blanket,

The mattress,

Carpet,

Couch or the seat.

Observe how these items feel supporting your physical body.

Notice their soft or springy touch.

Feel the clothing or blanket touching your skin.

Do they feel soft,

Warm,

Light,

Comforting?

Draw your awareness now to the sounds that you can hear.

Search out the most distant sounds,

The ones outside of the building that you are in.

Can you hear traffic noise,

Rain,

Wind,

People talking?

Now move closer to the sounds you can hear within the same room.

Can you hear your breath,

Someone moving,

A fridge buzzing?

Turn now to the smells around you.

Can you smell someone's food cooking,

The fresh smell of clean sheets,

Lavender spray on the blanket covering your body,

The smell of washing powder in your clothes,

Maybe some relaxing essential oils or a candle burning.

Lastly what can you taste in your mouth?

Maybe you taste the essence of the last meal that you ate.

Notice the flavors,

The textures,

The temperature of the food or drink that you previously ate.

If you haven't recently eaten then can you taste the water you drank last?

Notice the supple cleansing qualities of the water.

Now with all five senses alive and engaged observe yourself here and now perceiving the world around you with all five senses using your inner eye as your visual sense.

Just keeping your eyes closed start to deepen your breath and make small movements wiggling your fingers and your toes and rolling the wrists and the ankles.

I'm just pausing for a moment before opening your eyes and in your mind's eye bow your head to your heart center and acknowledge and embrace your abundant vibrational being that gives you your magnetic life force.

Namaste.
