In this simple meditation, you'll learn a technique to begin your day - no matter what it holds - with an inner sense of calm. Peace does not depend on our outer circumstances being without stress or chaos but comes from within.

Hello,

And welcome to The Daily Insight.

My name is Trish Tutton,

And in today's meditation,

We will be focusing on starting your day with a sense of calm.

May this practice be of benefit.

Find a comfortable place to sit or to lie down.

This meditation is about beginning your day with a sense of calm.

So find a position where you can be relaxed.

If you know you have a tendency to get sleepy,

Then make sure that your spine is long and your body is alert.

Begin with three deep breaths.

And every time you exhale,

Feel all of the sensations in your body as the breath releases.

Feel the body relaxing as the breath lets go.

Set the intention to create a sense of calm for your day ahead.

Often we rely on our external world to be peaceful,

To create internal peace.

We might find peace on a beach,

On a vacation,

Or with a good book.

But the truth is we can create our own peace.

Often our mind likes to worry.

However,

Spending these few minutes creating a deep sense of inner calm will prepare you better for any catastrophe in life that arises than worrying about it ever will.

As you settle,

Begin to notice your current state.

Creating calm has to begin with an acceptance of where we are at right now.

Notice the state of your body,

Of your mind,

And of your breath.

See if you can relax with your current state just as it is.

And if thoughts,

Emotions,

Or sensations arise,

You might silently,

Softly respond yes to them.

Coming whatever is here with kindness and compassion.

Notice your breath moving in and out through the nose.

Imagine your breath is like a breeze coming through open windows.

Tearing out the mind.

And as a way of remaining with the present moment and releasing anything else,

We can use a mantra.

As you inhale,

You can silently repeat to yourself,

I am just here.

And as you exhale,

Silently repeat,

And I am letting go.

Inhaling I am just here.

And exhaling,

And I am letting go.

Seeing this mantra for a few more moments.

Welcoming any peace that has become present in this moment.

As we finish this meditation,

I'll share a quote from Eckhart Tolle.

He says,

Don't look for peace.

Don't look for any other state than the one you are in now.

Otherwise,

You will set up inner conflict and resistance.

Forgive yourself for not being at peace.

The moment you completely accept your non-peace,

Your non-peace becomes transmuted into peace.

Everything you accept fully will get you there,

Will take you into peace.

This is the miracle of surrender.
