One effective way to calm the mind is to give it something to focus on. In this meditation, we pay attention to the spontaneous movements that naturally arise within the body and its surroundings. In this way, the mind finds an easeful path toward inner stillness.

Ah,

So let's take a moment and just enjoy a few moments of stillness.

And for that,

Just for a moment become aware of the movement inside and outside.

Become aware of what is moving within you.

So obviously,

One of the first things we recognize is the breath,

The movement of the breath.

When you become still,

You become aware of everything that changes and moves.

And the spontaneous flow of life through you.

So have this intention of resting and just observing the inner landscape.

How's your breath?

Where do you experience breath?

See if you can allow the breath to be spontaneous.

Almost like if you're taking a step back and you're watching yourself from behind.

Watching yourself breathe.

Notice all the little movements that happen besides the breath.

So much happens that we're just not aware of.

As well as you can notice any place where you might be holding rigidity,

Tightness.

And see if you can soften and allow for movement.

Sometimes it's we're not fully releasing one leg or a hand for some reason is holding a grip.

Sometimes it's a jaw.

Sometimes it's the eyes.

Or we can also notice some tightness or pressure in inner organs like the chest or the belly or the throat.

Notice if the flow of your breath has changed.

And you perceive your heartbeat.

The movement of your mind.

Can you notice when a thought arises?

It's so interesting that when we are paying attention to the mind,

Then there's no thought that arises.

And there's a reason for that.

Whenever you have a thought is a moment of non-awareness.

You cannot have a thought and be aware at the same time.

You lose awareness the moment you have a thought and then you regain it.

The moment you become aware of a thought,

The thought disappears.

What remains is awareness.

You might want to include perceiving the outer movements,

The noises of cars,

Birds,

Air conditioning.

The movement of light in your visual field.

It's a dynamic world.

Movement of emotions,

Feelings.

See if you can be aware of all of it.

Aware of everything that you're experiencing.

Sounds,

Sensations,

Feelings,

Thoughts.

Everything conveying in you.

Everything happening in you.

And dissolving in you.

Little by little.

You feel that everything starts dissolving into this vibratory field of energy.

This pulsing inner stillness.

Waves of thoughts arise and dissolve back into this inner stillness.

This is what memories come forth from this mind.

You are aware of the world.

There's a gentle effort of experiencing the movement within you.
