This is a classical meditation from the Ancient Tantric Yoga tradition book: The Vigñana Bhairava. It speaks about the space between the inhalation and exhalation as a doorway into the meditative state. A very simple and yet powerful focus for your meditation practice.

When you feel your breath,

You can get a lot of information about yourself.

The breath shows the mind.

A good way to start is just notice the rhythm of your breath.

Don't try to change it,

But you will notice that the moment you start observing the breath,

It starts changing.

Where do you feel the breath?

Where in the body?

Where do you feel it more tangibly?

And from where to where it expands,

Like what area of your body it moves more predominantly in.

If there are two points,

Where would those two points be?

Like a pendulum moving from one point to the other.

As you feel that area in the body where you feel the breath more tangibly,

See if you can soften that area.

And see if you can be more intimate with that sensation.

Notice any changes in the rhythm of your breath.

Notice what happens with your whole body as you focus on the breath.

See if you can pay attention to the gentle pause that happens at the end of the inhalation and at the end of the exhalation.

Which one of the two is more predominant for you?

Which one of the two you tend to hover,

To notice more?

Sometimes that pause is a little longer than the other one.

When you find it,

Notice that still point of the pause.

Don't try to control it.

Don't try to force it.

Just savour it that instant.

Savour the breath,

Especially the stillness in the pause.

Notice how being in the pause affects your whole body.

A gripple of stillness moving throughout your body and gently making it more still.

Like if all the cells in your being are drinking that stillness of the pause.

Notice what arises in the body as you go deeper into the experience of the pause.

Notice how being in the pause affects your whole body.

Can you release yourself more deeply into this inner simplicity?

Can you release yourself more deeply into this inner simplicity?

The breath becomes so subtle.

You're moving towards an inner point of stillness inside.

You're moving towards an inner point of stillness inside.

You're moving towards an inner point of stillness inside.

You're moving towards an inner point of stillness inside.
