In human life, we naturally confront the question again and again, “What do I do now? Where do I go next?” Or more broadly, “what do I do with my life?” Thomas draws from the deep well of Zen in this episode to take on these often bewildering questions. From a Zen perspective, the solution is so simple, we tend to look right past it.

Here you are,

Having a human experience,

Totally immersed in this now moment.

And,

Implicit in the now,

Always,

Is this question,

What do I do now?

What comes next?

Just feel this question living within you.

You can't help but do something next,

Even if you decide to do nothing.

You've chosen to do something.

There's no escaping it.

The last moment,

Just a moment ago,

Gone.

Now this moment.

And the same question,

What now?

What comes next?

Somebody give me a teaching,

Somebody point out the way.

Let go of the thinking mind.

Just rest in yourself.

Allow yourself to dissolve into a simple feeling of being.

Call forth a sense of trust.

This can be difficult.

Don't worry if it's a perfect trust.

Let your trust be partial and troubled and insecure and hazy,

Hazy like the hazy moon.

Nevertheless,

Have an intention to call forth a sense of trust as you rest as the one who knows.

You just know how to be.

You know when it's time to be still,

When to rest in yourself.

You know when it's time to act.

Feel the fullness of all of life,

All of love,

All of light,

All of being in this moment informing you,

Flowing through you,

Creating you,

Even as you give this self back to creation.

And just know what you know.

Just question what comes next.

What do I do now?

I'm so confused,

I'm so lost in life.

Trust your feet.

Trust the way the great Tao,

The flow of all of reality moves you,

Moves as you.

Don't try to work it out in your mind this time.

Where do your feet want to take you?

Where does your heart want to take you?

In your depths,

In your essence,

Where are you already right now?

How are you?

If it's I don't know coming up,

Then just totally be this I don't know mind.

If it's confusion,

Have a complete experience with confusion.

That part of you that thinks salvation is just around the corner if you only knew which corner it was around.

Let that part of you come to rest.

The part of you that supposes the truth is not already right here.

Deeply drink in the truth of your life.

It can only be this.

Allow your whole being to attune to the stillness,

To the silence.

And feel the whole force of manifestation of creation.

Moving you,

Moving through you,

Moving as you.

You are manifestation itself,

Becoming.

If you've eaten breakfast,

Then go wash your bowl.

What comes next is simple.

You already know.

Simple and profound. We are the only ones who know. We are the only one’s who can make our life what we want it to be
