Standing meditation is a powerful way to get your mind to slow down.

You can be standing anywhere but if it's accessible to you right now,

See if you can stand with bare feet outside on the earth,

Whether it's on grass,

Rock,

Dirt,

Sand,

Somewhere to connect your feet to ground you.

We think of what our bodies are used to doing when we're simply standing.

We're usually standing in a line,

Looking at something,

Having an alert conversation.

We very rarely stand and do nothing.

Standing brings our bodies and minds into alertness.

In this way,

Standing meditation is one of the quickest ways to bring yourself into the present.

It's also a great method to recharge your energy.

To find that place where you're standing,

Your feet hip width or slightly wider apart,

Look straight ahead and close your eyes halfway but not all the way.

Tune into your breath for a moment,

Breathing in belly gently,

Expanding,

Breathing out belly relaxing.

Have your attention and focused on your natural breath.

Focus on feeling your feet on the ground and breathing.

If you find it hard to keep the mind focused on the breath,

You can either silently in your mind or quietly out loud repeat Tich Nahan's beloved meditative verse.

Breathing in,

I know I am breathing in,

Breathing out,

I know that I am breathing out.

Let go of your waves.

Allow any emotions to be with you right now,

But do not focus on them.

When your mind wanders into thoughts and stories,

Gently and kindly bring your mind back to focusing on your breath.

Imagine any feelings and sensations you experience in your body standing still right now.

Now allow your eyes to open fully.

Take a few deep breaths and be gentle with yourself as you return to your day knowing that you have now recharged,

Refocused,

And reenergized.

I can't think how long ago it was that I stood on grass in bare feet. The emotional off kilter ness I felt has gone, I feel confident relaxed awake. Thank you 🙏
