Welcome to this therapist refresh meditation for joy.
In this meditation,
We will reorient our minds and hearts to joy.
So give yourself a moment to settle in.
You might wiggle a little or adjust your body.
You can take a big stretch or just lean back and let go.
Begin to let your awareness settle towards your body,
Aware of what it's touching,
Attending to your breath flowing,
And observing,
Too,
How you are holding the particular experiences of today in your body,
Heart,
Or mind.
And remembering that as important as it is in our work to open our hearts to suffering,
It is equally important that we limit our exposure to prolonged suffering.
We have a responsibility to care for ourselves as we care for others.
So let's explore joy.
What brings you joy?
Allow a person or an animal a place,
Some particular memory,
Take shape in your mind.
We'll just hold it there for a while,
Lingering.
Begin to let colors just come alive in your mind's eye,
Filling in the shadows and the light,
The shapes,
The sounds,
The smells,
And the feel.
What are you doing in this joyful moment?
Who are you with?
Who are you with?
And as you linger in this joyful,
Imaginative experience,
You may become aware of what it feels like in this moment of joy,
Letting your body,
Too,
Feel the presence of joy in your life and in the world.
If it feels right to do so,
Allow yourself to smile or sit up a little taller or breathe or laugh or move in any way that you need to deepen into this experience,
Really helping your body and mind remember that joy exists,
Remembering that you have experienced joy.
And that joy is there all around us.
It's wonderful to remember joyful moments and to let them come alive again in our mind.
And as we begin to let the joy come alive in our mind,
Begin to let this imaginative experience fade away.
If it feels right to you,
You might place a hand wherever you feel the presence of joy in your body,
Resting for one final moment in joy.
Enjoy.
We wish you good healing.
