In this practice, we first release ourselves a little bit from the moment to moment concerns of the body, so that we can access other levels of the mind, namely the subtle mind. The language of this meditation is designed to go from conventional into the unconventional, which enables us to relate to our experience from a different perspective. If you can leave your judgments out of this meditation, it can be a truly fresh and deeply relaxing experience. This meditation is part of a series called Life and Death on Mindfulness, which helps listeners go beyond surface practice and into meditations that can help us find peace with all of life.

So in this meditation,

We're going to practice releasing ourselves a little bit from the moment to moment concerns of the body.

This meditation is to be done seated upright.

And in preparation for this practice,

Let's first spend some intentional,

Concentrated time really attending to the body.

So stretching,

Moving,

Getting the body as comfortable as we can.

It will be easier to release ourselves from the concerns of the body after having given it our full attention and care.

So that's what we're doing now.

Notching any itches,

Rubbing our face,

Anything and everything your body wants right now.

You're kind of like at its disposal.

Sometimes I find it helpful to even make noise as I indulge in bodily concerns.

So loud sighs or moans while stretching or yawning.

Just really giving in to the body.

Maybe even being silly about it.

Making it clear that this is the body's time.

And now we begin to give ourselves a long,

Wide runway.

We'll be landing in our practice soon.

So maybe slowing down your movements a bit.

Beginning to make them smaller,

But nothing too extreme.

Just baby steps.

Maybe getting a little bit quieter as you move.

No need to force your breath to slow.

It will slow on its own as your movements demand less oxygen.

Maybe just small,

Slow movements now.

Huffing your cheeks to stretch them or turning your head slowly side to side.

And now beginning to bring a kind of thoughtfulness toward how you'll be sitting.

How you'll be arranging your limbs into your version of a seated posture.

Taking some time and care with this so that eventually we can all fully agree that we've given our body our best.

And now all that's left to do is to accept the body as it is.

To accept how you're sitting as the best you can do to help the body be comfortable.

So all that's left to do is just be here.

Closing your eyes.

Letting your posture just kind of like gel into stableness,

If that makes sense.

Allowing now for the only movement in the body to be the breath.

Making the choice to move like usual and really allowing your mind to come to rest on the simple movement of the breath.

Noticing you need right now in the breath.

Getting calm and focused now.

Choosing to not be bothered by the thoughts.

Choosing to stay focused on the breath.

The rising and falling of the chest.

If you notice yourself dozing,

Nip it in the bud by opening your eyes slightly or more if necessary.

Do not let yourself fall asleep.

You're awake and focused on the breath.

You are here.

Fully here.

Nothing else matters but here.

Noticing now all the moments of breath.

Each one.

How the breath rises up the ladder of moments on the in-breath,

Then descends back down.

Just this.

The ladder of moments of in-breath.

The ladder of moments of out-breath.

Climbing up and down the ladder.

Now releasing the ladder.

Pure breath breathing.

Pure breath breathing.

You are here in the center of breath.

At the center of life.

Everything connecting.

Past and future leading back to you.

You are not different from this moment.

Feel that now.

You are this moment.

You are one in the same.

Life living through you like a breeze.

An open window.

A breeze.

You are the open window and the breeze now.

Open window.

Breeze.

Everything transparent.

Knowing.

Being.

Knowing and being are one.

The body breathes connecting to life.

Life breathing your body.

All of life breathing your body now.

The ocean breathes the body.

The song of the bird.

A friend's laugh long ago.

Let it all breathe.

No beginnings and no endings.

All of it here.

Time travel.

Time comes to you now from all directions.

Converges.

The breeze moves the open window.

The open window moves the breeze.

You soften.

Neither push nor pull.

There's quiet now.

A quiet full of sound.

Listen.

Feel.

Transcend.

Find yourself in space.

The space of and the space between.

My voice is you.

No rules.

Fly.

No need to fly because you are the air.

Flying and air are one in the same.

Don't cling.

Don't try.

You fly the moment you don't try.

The bottom is the top.

Smile.

It is pleasure.

A runway appears.

Long breaths that you can feel now.

Create the runway.

Breathing on the runway.

Letting the feeling of breath create your runway now.

Riding the breath.

Feeling your breath.

Back in your body now.

Feeling the breath in the body now.

A deep breath.

Maybe another.

Maybe you begin to move your body now as well.

Thanking your body for giving us this time.

Opening your eyes.

Smiling now because now you know somehow that you are the breeze and the window.
