Have you ever meditated and you were so in the zone?
Your body was vibrating,
You felt like you were floating,
You could just meditate forever in that state.
But it only happens once in a blue moon,
And you're probably wondering,
Is there a secret to make that happen consistently so I'm not just wandering around in distractibility in my mind every time I sit down to meditate?
Yes,
There is.
We're going to break it down.
We're going to make it straight to the point.
When you sit down to meditate,
You'll notice that there's some form of sensory discomfort in your body that's either immediately there or arises at some point in the session.
It's either in the form of tiredness and fatigue sensations,
Or emotional sensations like restlessness,
Boredom,
Anxiety,
Frustration,
Or some kind of physical sensation like a tightness in the stomach,
A stomach ache,
Or some achiness in the muscles.
And normally,
Without even realizing it,
What's tripping you up and holding you back in your practice is that you're avoiding those sensations,
Which drives you into your mind and picks up that thought activity so that you stay stuck in an inefficient meditation loop.
Instead,
What you want to do is steadily bring your attention to that discomfort.
If you have a focus object like your breath,
Notice that,
But then when the discomfort arises,
Bring your full attention to that physical sensory discomfort and lean into it steadily.
You don't want to punch through that wall of discomfort.
You want to lean into it steadily,
The same way you would in a cold shower.
You don't want to run away from the sensations in a cold shower or think about how cold it is.
You just want to feel the sensations with a calm intensity of attention.
And by doing that,
You'll transform those sensations,
Which are like a tight,
Solid mass,
Almost like ice,
Into a liquid,
Into water.
They'll start to loosen up as you feel them.
There's a progression that takes time.
You have to stick with it.
And then as you stick with it,
You'll notice you'll gradually transcend them and that heat of your attention,
Of your leaning in,
Will transform that water into like a steam,
Into like a vibration.
Everything will loosen up and you'll start to transcend those sensations.
So they'll either transform and you won't even notice them or you'll just see them almost like you're floating above them from a different perspective,
Unaffected by them,
Able to stay in a focused state regardless.
So that's the key.
Notice the wall of discomfort,
Steadily lean into it and find your way through that into the state of meditative focus that you want to be in.
