In this reverse aging meditation to make you feel youthful in body, mind and spirit, inspired by Dr. Ellen Langer's Counterclockwise Study, we'll drop into a deeply relaxed state and hop in our time machine to our time period of choice. In that youthful state, we'll experience ourselves with all of our senses, re-immerse in our youthful emotions, and affirm on the deepest cellular level that which we wish to experience. Transcript

Hey it's Cyrus and welcome to this reverse aging meditation.

This session is based on the counterclockwise study from Dr.

Ellen Langer from Harvard University where she brought a group of men in their 70s to a residential retreat and then set up the environment to look and feel like it was 20 years earlier.

Sure enough,

After just one week of flipping through magazines,

Having conversations and dressing like it was two decades prior,

Their physical health reflected their psychological reversal of time and they all showed substantial improvements in flexibility,

Dexterity,

Memory,

Hearing,

Posture,

Cognition,

And overall well-being.

Observers were even shown photos of the men before and after the retreat and they all concurred they looked significantly younger.

So given that science has also proven that the brain can make little distinction between the imagination and reality,

We're going to leverage the power of imagination to create this same reverse aging effect that's been proven by science in today's meditation session.

So if that sounds good,

Get comfortable,

Set up your environment in a way that's conducive to peacefulness,

Eliminate any potential distractions,

Put your phone on do not disturb if needed,

And settle into a position that feels comfortable and easy.

Close your eyes when you feel ready and take a deep slow breath into the nose and exhale it slowly and effortlessly out through the mouth.

Take a deeper breath and feel it like a wave cascading all the way down to your feet and let it roll back out at an effortless pace out through the mouth.

We're going to do two breath holds just to really get into the body now,

Breathing deep and slow,

More fully and holding at the top,

Feeling your body as you hold the breath for a moment.

And now let it go,

Let it roll out,

Feel yourself decompressing and relaxing as you exhale.

And last one,

Deepest one,

Breathe deep,

Fill up the body slowly like a balloon with your breath,

Holding at the top,

Fully present with the sensations head to toe as you hold.

And super slow,

Let it go,

Feel yourself slowing your tempo as you exhale,

Nice and easy,

Feeling a deeper relaxation washing over you as you breathe out.

And notice any tension in your legs or feet and let it magically start to relax and release as your attention releases that tension.

Staying awake and alert in your mind as you notice your body relaxing,

Sensing any tension in the torso,

Feeling the core of the body starting to decompress and expand with the breath and awareness,

And noticing your arms and hands,

Feeling any subtle holding,

And letting it go,

Letting yourself just hang out in a relaxed,

Easy way,

Feeling your neck and shoulders following suit,

Doing the same as that relaxing wave makes its way up into the jaw and the face,

Feeling the little muscles behind the eyes softening ever so subtly,

And then feeling the breath wash through the nostrils and relax the body head to toe even deeper,

Staying awake and clear as you feel that super deep relaxation pleasantly washing through at your pace.

And now as you sense that easy,

Pleasant sensation in your body,

Just invite something to bubble up,

Maybe a sense impression or an image that represents an earlier time in your life where you felt at your best,

At your most radiant,

Vibrant,

Healthy,

And full of openness and excitement for life.

And just allow your mind to start to magnetize to the time period that feels best,

Making sure it feels safe and good for you to explore and revisit,

As you take another moment to settle and land on what feels right to you right now,

And when you have it just imagine yourself getting into your time machine,

Your flux capacitor or whatever works for you,

Fire it up,

Program it to that time period,

And feel yourself magically but honestly emerging into that time period as you exit that time machine.

If it feels good,

Feel yourself emerging with that sense in your body of how you felt at that time in this moment.

Notice what you see and allow it to feel totally vivid and real.

Notice what you hear,

Maybe there's familiar sounds or music that you enjoy in that time period.

Notice the tactile sense of touch and movement,

How your body moves in this time period,

And allow yourself to feel that fluidly rolling through you now.

Notice any familiar smells or any sensory details that anchor you more deeply in this moment in time,

Allowing it to feel totally real.

And allow yourself to feel any emotions now,

Any textures or colors or waves of feelings that flow through you in this time period.

Allow them to bubble up effortlessly to help you feel connected and open,

Joyful and excited or whatever else you might have felt.

And without any effort,

Just allow your breath to amplify those feelings.

Don't suppress them if it feels good,

Allow them to amplify and get bigger and more vibrant and expansive with every breath as you imagine those feelings are totally abundant and overflowing.

And allow your brain and body and spirit to soak all those feelings up,

To feel it coursing through you like a fountain of youth,

Transforming every layer of your being on a cellular level as you breathe those energies through your system.

Allow yourself to bask in that now as you keep all of your attention on your body in this moment.

Noticing that you've primed your body to receive those messages and now all you have to do is pay attention to the sensations flowing through your body and allow them to work their magic as they transform into the most robust and youthful version of themselves in this moment as you flow and breathe with the sensations in the body.

And in this state of deep relaxation and subconscious receptivity,

Imagine as though you could whisper to your body and your spirit and affirm to it what you would like it to receive.

For example,

You might say,

I allow myself to be youthful,

I allow myself to be fully healthy,

I allow myself to be open and flowing with vigor for life or whatever you wish to affirm,

Doing so now as if you're speaking to your body and spirit.

And notice how your body is responding to what you hold in mind and the instructions that you give it.

And simply release the tie of this energy and state of being to this time period now and get in your time machine feeling how you do and bring it back with you into this present moment now.

Feel yourself re-emerging into this moment on the timeline with all the benefits of the state of mind and body that you called up.

Let yourself release the perfunctory mental skepticism and simply allow yourself to feel that state of youthfulness,

Healthiness,

And radiant energy in this moment as a choice and a state of being that you just took the time to cultivate and nurture on a deep subconscious and physical level.

So I encourage you to embrace any subtle or significant shifts that you're sensing and feeling.

And remember that despite what we've been taught,

The body very much responds to the mind,

Whether that be programming about our aging that we either don't question or what we choose to consciously hold instead.

So I invite you to immerse yourself in that previous time period for even five minutes a day for the next week and keep a journal of any shifts that you're noticing in your state of being,

Body,

Mind,

And your life in general as if the counterclockwise study is any indication you'll likely notice some interesting effects.

Thank you for the invitation to re-visit forgotten oasis of vitality. For me, what became abundantly clear was a layer of socialisation/ convention which encourages guilt and anxiety regarding acting too happy, independent, wild. Is ageing or being old a result of what happens when you conform?
