Hey,
I'm Cyrus.
Welcome to this short meditation on getting into a calm state of laser focus,
So you can work,
Study,
Or do something creative in a super locked-in,
Efficient way.
Start off by sitting upright in a chair with good back support,
Your lower back scootched,
Your spine straight,
Your neck upright,
Your hands in your lap,
Your feet on the floor,
And taking a deep breath in through your nose,
Releasing it and relaxing your muscles on the way out,
And finding a specific spot straight down the center of your line of vision,
5 to 10 feet in front of you to rest your eyes on.
It can be anything small and specific to lock your eyes onto,
Like a dot on the ground or the cap of a water bottle,
It doesn't matter what,
But just locking your eyes onto that spot now.
And now with your eyes locked onto that spot,
Remembering to blink consistently throughout this exercise,
And taking one more deep breath in through the nose,
And releasing and relaxing even deeper on the way out,
Feeling your mind start to release and letting go of tension in your muscles.
And now with your body relaxed and your eyes comfortably on that spot in front of you,
Start to be aware of the entirety of the objects in your peripheral vision.
Don't move your eyes to look at them,
Just keep your eyes on the spot and start to see and be aware of everything in your peripherals,
Not thinking about it,
Just seeing it simultaneously.
And relaxing a little bit deeper into that wide visual focus as you allow your breath to come to you.
And now start to consciously,
Purposefully shrink your focus into a three-foot radius spotlight around the spot that your eyes are rested on.
Imagine your vision is a spotlight and you're honing it into that roughly three-foot zone around your spot.
Notice thoughts as they arise,
But start to let them go as you keep your attention centered on this three-foot spotlight area,
Starting to pick up the details of what you're seeing,
Remembering to keep your eyes relaxed and blinking naturally as you stay locked in.
And now shrink that three-foot radius spotlight again to just converge your eyes on the spot that your eyes are rested on.
Don't strain or tense your eyes,
Just consciously choose to stay calmly locked in and focused on only the spot that your eyes are rested on.
Blinking at a natural pace as you start to notice the details and textures of this spot that your eyes are gently,
Clearly focused on.
Start to allow thoughts,
Distractions,
And the rest of the world to fade into the background.
You might even start to notice the rest of your visual field having a photo-negative effect.
That's totally normal.
Breathing,
Blinking,
And flowing with that naturally as you keep that spot front and center,
Everything else fading into the background.
Feel your connection to the spot that your eyes are rested on and make that connection to that the only thing that matters as you let go of thoughts and distractions and everything else moment to moment,
Staying in a rhythm of focus on that spot.
Allow your breath to start to come to you a little more slowly.
Allow your muscles to relax a little more deeply as you simply decide now for a few final moments in this relaxed way to stay connected with your focus to that spot no matter what for a few moments,
Blinking,
Flowing with your breath,
And deciding to stay locked in no matter what on that spot.
Great work.
Now take a deep breath in,
Filling your whole body with the breath,
And as you release slowly out through the mouth,
Allow the eyes to close to just relax for a moment and center yourself.
And from this relaxed place,
Start to visualize yourself seamlessly transferring the laser focus that you've cultivated to whatever it is you want to apply it to next.
See and feel yourself calm and immersed with that laser focus in that zone with whatever it is you choose to do.
And when you feel ready,
Open your eyes,
Notice any shifts towards calmness and presence you may feel and the laser focus that you might notice is activated now.
And at your own pace one moment at a time,
Move your body in whatever way feels intuitive and allow that to translate smoothly into the next thing you choose to do.
And remember to repeat this regularly for best results and to build and condition this mental muscle.
